Sonic thickness testing

I have a new mid-level sonic thickness tester to check some cylinder blocks. I'm looking for someone with some experience to tell me what they have found / used for sound velocity numbers for 1970 / 1980 SBC factory blocks. I want to verify what I've found to see if I'm in the ballpark.

Can't you find a section of the block with a known thickness and tune it such that you know what you're working with? This is how I saw a guy do it on some flathead blocks for me?

 

Yes, I did test a place on the block that I could measure the thickness. I was just looking to confirm if my meter was in the ballpark.

 

You just did your own verification........................you took actual measurement and your meter verified.

Doesn't matter - you set it up for a "known test" . . . you'll be fine!
