  6. Funny we all credit vets for shoring up our rights and freedom, yet a decorated combat vet puts in his 2 cents and he gets called out. I wont speak for any other vet but freedom and liberty was the last thing on my mind in 72. What was there was I could not let my fears stand in the way of being there for my brothers. And I honestly believe that's what most guys find as a motivator.

Doc, you were/are absolutely right it was a bit sappy, but not hardly vomit material. But then if anyone earned the right to say that it would be you.

Many thanks to all that served. Hardships were many, the praises few, but we'd all do it all over again.

Thank you, I feel very humbled! You are right, the biggest motivator is your mate and your section/platoon brothers. All else really seems to fall by the weigh side.

    Doc.

PS, I guess I just don't go in for sentimentality.

When I was inducted at Ft. Hamilton there were about 60/70 of us – A Marine Drill Sgt came in and said they needed 8 volunteers to join the Marines. After a brief wait, he called out the names of the volunteers! Thank God, I wasn’t one!

There were 200 of us that day at Fort Wayne in Detroit. They mentioned they were drafting for the Marines that day and to state your preference.
Of course everyone said Army. As I watched the bleachers empty and only a few of us left I thought "Maybe they don't need me". They finally call my name, walk me past all the desks into an office, close the door and give me the good news.
