I'm going to NIX the Door Handles and Lock Cylinder and Wing Windows per James' PS image. Other than that, It'll look very much like his rendering. Within the next Two weeks (or so), I'm
    going to Dig In.

  5. Really? I thought it might be fun to have it look "stock" by leaving that stuff on. Make people wonder if it was a factory prototype.:)

I'd personally like to see it with the handles left on and a switch to '53 Cadillac caps.

Wow! i like the look of that turd ! :D

For your grille, you can play with it, make it look stock, but won't, like on this woody ... i save that pic on my hard disk only for the grille idea

On your car, it will complete the concept car look

  9. I was thinking a chrome strip lower down on the body might look good - like the Comete on the first page. A swage line on the side would be good too, like the Thunderbird has, but thats a whole lot of work.

Just a quick update. I got this Brain Fart in which I was going to weld the Roof together and then cut it off !! I thought this over
quite a bit over the last couple of weeks. I decided to Nix that
idea. James D.'s PS image really looks cool. My original plan
was to build a 1949 Thunderbird complete with convert. top.
I think that I'll continue with the Hardtop version and look for
another car to try out the same basic dimensions with a Convert.
Top. Have been really busy, have the 1928 Martin & Schwartz Gas Pump all torn down and starting to restore it over the Winter. Will have to wait until after the first of the year to start
welding like a madman on the Turd. Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas to all in HAMBLAND.

You need some type of a hood scoop on it. It needs to look as if the 1949 car you are building was the nexus for the 55 57 cars. It needs to pull over a couple of styling cues that would back date to 49 and morph into a 55.

  18. Love your project.

Regarding door handles, I would either use the stock ones, or something from 49-51 Mercury or Lincoln as a substitute for stock.

    Looking forward to future updates.

I'll the watching this! the proportions on that ford are gorgeous, I don't know if they if they told you: but side-vents would look amazing on it, if you manage the proportions

Can't believe that February is gone in 1 week ! ! ! Have been shoveling Snow for Months now ! ! ! We are near 150 inches of
Snow this year. Today it was 55 degrees. Had to chop Ice and
get ready for Blizzard Conditions for tomorrow.

Anyway, still haven't had any time to work on the Turd.

Just got the final primer on the underside of TDCENG's
'32 coupe. That project has taken precident over the Turd
this Winter ! ! ! Stay tuned, Spring is coming.

Unfortunately, I am shopless right now. I just put the car in Barn Storage last weekend.
I have 2 Kids in College and just can't afford to rent a shop right now. The car runs and drives and is all ready to be welded up and the body finished. It is very disappointing to not be able to complete this project in the near future. Thanks for following the build.
Hopefully, next year will be a better one that this year.

    Happy Holidays,

    VR&C.

20,000 (+) look/sees on this thread. Thanks to all that have taken a look. I am still without a shop, so I'm buying parts so that I have everything I need when I finally land a new shop. I just scored a 1955 Thunderbird Hood Scoop Grille today on E-Gay. I am also trying to buy a set of 1955-1957 Thunderbird Skirts. I figure that I will section in a set of factory skirts giving the Rear Wheelopening the real T-bird look.
This will also make it much easier to change / remove the Rear Wheels/Tires.
Again (for everyone that has subscribed) - Thanks for your interest. Stay tuned.
I really want to complete this project because everyone that has seen it in person
is really stoked to see it done and on the road.

    Take care,

    VR&C. (Mark).

As long as you are buying parts you are still working on it! But you know I have been waiting patiently for some time now :D

KK : I guess that buying parts is a part of working towards the end. I am so tied up right now that I am hoping to get going by Spring.

    Thanks James.

Just a quickie update on the Turd.
I've been gathering parts all Winter. I am trying to get everything together so that once I kick this build into gear, I have everything to get it done somewhat quickly. Time will tell. I got a 1955 T-Bird Hood Grille. I am starting to Fab the sheetmetal scoop to weld onto the Hood for that classic T-Bird look. I'm not going to go really wild on the T-Bird parts though. Just some styling ques to go with the theme of the build. It really sucks not having a shop to work in. Slowly, but surely, I'm going to keep on moving forward. This will be a really cool car when it is done.

    Thanks,
    VR&C.

Starting to take some small steps forward. I got a 1955 T'Bird Hood Grille. I have fabbed up the patterns to cut out and weld up for the Hood Scoop. Once the Scoop is fabbed up, I will decide if it will be functional or just visual. Here are some images of the mock up for the Scoop with the Grille.

Now it is off to find some 18 Gauge Sheetmetal and cut out the pattern and English Wheel the curve into the top piece.
