My fave is a 427ci big block Chevy, especially the all aluminum ZL1 that came out in '69. And who can forget the 496ci all aluminum Canam motors of the late '60s and early 70s? Maybe not quite traditional but they are 40 years old.

My favorite is one I will never be able to afford. But that is what dreams are made of.

  6. Love my 327! When I first installed it in a 62 Lark, I swore (after a test run) if I ever sold the Lark I would keep the engine. Car is gone, still have the 327! Going next into my '29 Chevy.

I'd choose an early OHV Cad for an engine in my own driver, but I always thought the injected nailhead in Ivo's T was the best looking hot rod engine I ever saw:

  8. Early Hemi - from asthetics to engineering and performance capability it is the clear winner.

My choice would be the the late 50's verison of OHD Caddie V8.

  10. Mine would be between a 302 GMC, Nailhead, or an old Plymouth flathead 6. I can't decide. Currently they are my favorite.

We love our Buick 401 Nailhead - big cam, dual Carter Competition four barrels, plug-and-play MSD, Sanderson headers, and a Muncie for that incredible monster torque 70mph to ?????? ride!!

Hands down, my favorite is the first V8 Hemi the Ford/Ardun. Just seems right, looks very healthy, got to be a runner, and always gets LOTS of attention. Iceman

I'm a big fan of the early Chrysler Hemi too.

  21. Any of them that look great, sound wonderful and get you there with a smile on your face, work for me. Mind you, this banger is the engine of choice for my latest project.

I would say a 426 max wedge with a cross ram. Second would be a hemi.

There are two ways the question can be interpreted 1) what is your favorite engine to install in a vintage hot rod? and 2) what is your favorite vintage engine? I took it as #1, my answers would change considerably if I had interpreted it as #2.

  29. That's the cool thing about hot rodding, we each have a different opinion, and no one's wrong.
