Hey guys, Tommy here owner of Moore's hot rods in Dallas Ga. Some of you already know me but most of you dont. I read on here more than I write, this time I could use a little help if you will. I have just picked up a 1941 plymouth business coupe and looking to do alittle up grade to the rear by changing the axle out to a more modern one and dont have alot of time to search around for the best fit . Any help would be appericated. thanks T.M
Just how difficult is it to get out a tape measure? http://www.rosevillemoparts.com/reference_enginetrans.php?SID .
lol its not , but when you dont have anytime to get to a junk yard before they close and most wont let you go in to search it makes it hard ! but thanks for the info .

I put a '79 Trans Am 10 bolt posi in my '40 Plymouth business coupe. Perfect fit in width and dropped right onto the stock springs, no mods required. '69 Chevelle driveshaft was perfect length too, no cutting.
the bolt pattern is no big deal ,Ive changed the factory 16" wheels out to 15" universal bolt ford or chevy. but thanks for the heads up 73RR !
I used a rear from an '88 Dakota. The '87-90 models had 5 lugs, if I remember correctly. This has drum brakes. The Ford Explorer rear is easier to find, cheaper and has disc brakes. If I were doing it again, I'd find me an Explorer rear.
I've seen that Plymouth and talked with you about it. I'm just down the road from you at Rockmart. Beautiful car, amazing to find one that solid and well-preserved.
Interesting. Where are they measured? Hub to hub? Backing plate to backing plate? Do you have measurements for other rear ends? <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
I have a posi-rear out of a 1984 Dodge diplomat Ex-police car , complete with the big sway bars leaf springs , wheel to wheel , will that work? , keep it all Mopar.....
By the way , if your looking to keep it all Mopar , I got everything you need , like a police interceptor v-8 , auto tranny , the rear I was telling you about , factory 8 inch steel wheels , the whole thing , PM me if your interested...
Don't Explorer 8.8's have the pinion offset? The Ranger 8.8 does, and wouldn't work in my '38 Mopar for that reason.
how much is the offset ? i know putting in a 318 with stock steering you have to offset the engine 1'' to the passenger side also look here for more info http://www.carnut.com/specs/rear.html
I've got a '61 Pontiac Powr-lok rear under mine...with 10" wide slicks it took some fender trimming ...
Beautiful coupe man, good luck with the mods, keep us posted on progess. Looka like a nice survivor, one of my fave body styles ever. ~sololobo~
