Nothing surprises me with T5s... So many combos.

I believe you're correct on the V8s - not seen one of those in Ford pattern, but don't mess with them hardly at all.

 

I have one of the W/C 14 spline V6 camaro trannys has S-10 type gearing inside. its only good for a "Muncie" case w/c , with the angled shifter

 

Has anyone used a T-5 out of a 280 Turbo Z car?

I was wondering of they are ok?

Never even seen one - supposedly used from 83-86 - NWC, but should have the 3.50 gearset.

 

He means he has a WC V6 Camaro T5 with the Chevy pattern...


I don't know anything on these. Bolt pattern? shifter location? spline count?

 

If you want to use the T5 from a 280zx/300zx, you will need to get the yoke for the driveshaft, as they have there own spline size,
(one for sale in Dallas on C/L)
It uses its own clutch, 9" approx and the input is about as long as Fox body mustang, also the shifter is all the way back to rear seal
It is a Ford/Jeep pattern case

 

S10 gearing & 14-spline are typically NWC though...and would've been Chevy pattern. I don't think the WC V6 trans went Ford pattern until '93...in fact, I'm not sure V6 every had WC and GM case...but never speak in absolutes when it comes to T5s!

 

So, you don't think they use the WC behind the V6 in the Camaro at all?

Like I originally said, I don't believe they started using the Ford pattern in the Camaro or S10 until 1993. Apparently some people are of the opinion that this is not the case, but I have yet to see anything to verify it.

Based on a picture you posted (Ernie), they did use the Ford pattern on at least some NWC Astro van T5's behind the 4.3, but I don't know what years??

the Gm W/C trans is a 1352-197, I also watched the "technician" at the salvage yard relieve it of its 2.8L. the input is the same length as s-10 or 94 Camaro V6 (i matched up al three) the 89 V6 has a shorter bearing retainer, the correct length for the old chevy 235 swap.
there's on of these for sale S. of Ft worth on C/L (4.03 1st / 0.76 5th)

 

Not what I meant - they absolutely did, I just don't think they used the WC behind the V6 with a GM bolt pattern, only a Ford pattern and, as you say, starting in '93...HOWEVER, I just looked at my listing and I do see an '88 WC V6 application, so that would've been GM cased, so I stand corrected.

I agree with you here 100%. I believe '93 was a transition year for the S10, so you might have either case, but I think the F-body was Ford pattern 100% in '93 and up (again, nothing ever seems to hold true as an absolute with T5s though).

Last year Astrovan I can find in my listing is '89, but I wouldn't swear any one listing is complete.

The 197 is an '89 V6 and listed as WC. I don't have a gear ratio listed for it though...know what yours is? The '88 is a 4.03 gearset (1352-177) & listed as WC...

 

New question. What is the newer S10 tranny that replaced the T5? Odd little thing with integrated bellhousing. Any similarities? Looked at one at a pals house.

Probably a New Ventures NV3500...

 

This looks smaller and narrower in the bellhousing than a 3500

 

NV1500 then....

 

The XXXX-197 has the 054 cluster in it (labeled it before teardown, used the mainshaft for a W/C street rod build up, put the original B/R in a S10 box that "Dragsta" bought from me)
so 1st is 4.03 (have the 32T 1st gear still, 21 spline input, 054 37-32-23-15-14)
2.8L was closer to air pump, than combustion engine,

 

Tman is Telstar Motors still In Mitchell? I may have to get Jerry to sign a bill of sale for me.

Anybody got any tips on getting the throwout bearing fork to go on the clutch cross shaft in a Cornhuskers kit? I ain't having much luck and am reluctant to start driving it on. Fork seems to have oblong hole. Anybody else had any trouble or is it just me... as usual? Thanks, Al

 

Ernie, thank you for all this info! It's been very helpful as I look into putting a T5 into my A V8. You said that GM started using the WC T5 in '88. Were these only in the V8 cars or did the V6 cars also come with WC units?

and again, '88-92 Camaro is WC with Chevy bolt pattern regardless of engine type.

Does anyone know if the aftermarket Mustang short throw shifters that are all over epay will work on the S10 tail shaft housing?

 

from what I tried,,,,,the mustang bolt pattern is not the same as the S10,,,,,there are short throw S10 ones available
