Most of them are sitting rotting in kansas, seems they were a popular bus stop shack's and sand box for kids to play in. most backyards have two or more sitting around...............................and they seem to be very popular thown in river banks to keep it from washing out.!!

I'll agree with you on that one. I've always liked the 39's better, mainly because of the front lights. Nice ride!

    PS Not that I wouldn't take a '40 home for a ride :)

I just got an email from a friend of mine from my last hobby. He had found out that I just picked up a Plymouth coupe. He told me that he had THREE (3) running '40 Ford Coupes at one time in the 70's before I knew him!!!! He had a barn fire and lost them all and the pictures to prove it. Talk about tragic!

Best looking '39-40 to come out in a long long time. It's my personal favorite.

I had to sell my '40 standard back in '96 and have been kicking myself ever since. Working on a '39 standard now and loving every second of it. Even when things go wrong, I am enjoying myself. I think the 38, 39, and 40 Ford styling screams hotrod. Its timeless beauty, and I am so honored to be bringing one back to life.

    I want one...

  10. I'm 71 years old and hot rodded all through the '50's, '60's, 70's, and 80's. During that time I've built and owned 2, '40 Ford Coupes and a bunch of other hot rods.

I've NEVER seen a chopped '40 Ford that I thought looked good!

  11. A few photos of my 40 Opera Delux coupe can be found on page 7 in various configurations over the years.

This sure reminds me of Frank Oddo's coupe that he ran at El Mirage in the early 70's. It was a D motor, small block Ford, and 40 was the # he ran on it. He may have run it at Bonn. one yr. too, I can't remember for sure. Later, he ran a lakester.

My mistake. Dick sent me that picture when I bought some taillights from him a couple of years ago, and I thought the cross springs/flathead comment came from him. Don't know why else I would have written that.

I am a lurker here and by the whooping post count don't really have much to contribute. But sure enjoy the site. This is not my car but belongs to a close friend. His dad started the build 4 years ago and got very sick. Sadly died of cancer. My buddys family desided to get the car finished because we all knew "John" would have wanted it that way. This car is stunning. It took 2 more years in 2 different custom shops and was finished in feb 2010. These pics came from the final builder

You have contributed by sharing this ride with the rest of us. You don't have to have a huge amount of posts to be a contributor. It is in the the quality, not quantity. Your friend's Dad would be proud to have seen his car here. My Pop passed in 06 and I hope to finish his car soon as I know that is what he wanted. Thanks...

My husbands Forty. He bought in Rochester, NY and drove it back to California 2200 miles. The car had not been driven for a year or so. It also had the early eighty's ZZ top look but blue. He did all the tune ups and repairs needed to avoid any unexpected suprises, but we all know how that is. We broke down in Indiana. It was like 25 Degrees out side. My hubbie pulled the Auto Zone parking lot repair. Once on the road again other suprises came up too. We made it back home in 3.5 days even after all that kos. My husband and his crazy adventures. Once home she got her make up smeared a little ,new stance and a pair of new shoes. She is under the knife now getting a whole complete make over.. LOL I think now that we made it back, i am ready for another crazy road trip. Not knowing the unexpected is what made this a priceless adventure. Met lots of great people offering to help was so amazing to me. i guess old classics bring out the good in people.

  20. This is a blow-up of a small photo that I took in Louisville at the 25th Anniverary Nats but I was impressed with the flames and stance.

Has anyone "un-chopped" a '39-'40? I see a few chopped ones out there, and agree they just don't look quite right. It may be able to bring these back once Bob Drake brings out his steel coupe bodies.

Be tough to do with out a donor car for its top. With a decent top and some door tops, should be relatively easy ( mush easier than chopping for sure).

I just like 39 - 40 coupes. I was first exposed to them when I was 11 years old with a 39 deluxe coupe. I now have a 40 std coupe and a deluxe sedan. They are just cool. Here's pics of my std coupe and a friends deluxe.

  30. Hi All,

I've been through this thread 3 times in the last few days and currently I have several people interested in my 40 coupe....and I gotta tell you, I'm really getting cold feet about letting this car go. I know if it goes, it will be the last one I'll ever have.

    HELP....lol
