Lee ran this car in e/mp held the record for a couple years,, I ran against him on several occations at Little River and barrowed the clutch disc out of the wagon at Houma La after he lost an engine and I was still in the field. A/B and usually C were the domain of bigblock cars. Since the classes were based on pounds per cube it would be possible to have a 302 powered A car but it would have to be so light that it might be under the class's minimum weight,or just too light to be built while sticking to the rules. A car could have a tilt front end in later years as long as it was all steel. Cars later had full backhalfs as well. In 70 thru 73 A,and B were prtty much like pro stock with a different weight break. Over the years the classes seperated. Today it is coming full circle. An a or B altered comp car is pretty much a current pro stocker with a little weight added,while a c would be the same car with the same basic engine minus a few cubes.

No, It was a homemade tunnel ram. It was a 400 Pontiac they destroked to make 350 ci. It actually measured 348ci. They used some round curved exhaust tubing, 2 or 2 1/8 in and made plates from steel and cut the ports the same size as the intake ports on the heads. Dale Moody shaped the tubing to fit the plates and brazed them together with a torch. The top was also steel plates with 2in holes to fit two 4500 carbs built by Dougherty. They then used a small about 1/2in open aluminum spacer under the carbs. That's all the plenum they had. Very revolutionary, and always drew a crowd when the hood was opened. Not to mention, it was fast. Nobody could believe it was actually a Pontiac engine.

Its always been my belief that Ralph Ridgeway pioneered that tunnel ram built on top of a chevy "FI" manifold? Anyone else know for sure? I think Colseys story about The "DEB" C/MP car may talk about it? Anyone wanna chime in thier 2-cents worth?
That's what I always heard, and think I remember reading - it was called the "Ridgerunner Ram". I've got a magazine article around here but it would probably take me till summer to find it.
I'm not sure but I think it was a couple of different people developing tunnel rams at the same time. I do know that Vic Edelbrock asked if he could use Caudles intake to develop his first tunnelram and Carroll sent it to him. Then Vic sent Caudle a wooden prototype to check out. But when Caudle heard that Vic had cut up his intake to check out, Carroll was a little upset. The wooden prototype is supposedly still sitting on Caudles shelf in Amarillo.
