..to get rid of that crappy '80s look my car had when I bought it...

Here's what I started out with after I bought the car... Yuk!

I ditched the wheels in favor for a set of Supremes and swapped the painted bumper for a chrome one and also removed the original grille.

I bought 5 bullet-cones from Wirth Automotive and mounted them in the grille opening. Looked good from an angle, but downright silly when viewed head-on.

The bullets are just too small to properly fill up the grille-opening.
Then I tried a clean shiny grill-plate one day just for kicks. Replaced the hood-moulding for a chrome-version aswell.

Found it a good improvement over the painted grille but since I still wanted to have bullets in the grille so I continued to work on it.

In an effort to give the bullets some more 'body' I used some aluminium rings I made from xerox-copier drum-ends.

But it was still not to my liking.

Then it hit me.... it just needs more bullets!
So I added 4 more and then things were coming together!

Only thing left was blacking out the grille plate, which I actually wanted to do all the time.
I think I've at least started hitting the nail on the head a bit here... ;)

Now I'm thinking, perhaps a couple of more bullets would work aswell, no?

Very cool! Where does one GET the bullets? I've seen them put on grills and attached to hub caps.. but can't find the bullets themselves..????

Pretty car. I kinda like the smooth, no bullet grill the best, but adding the rings you made (neat idea!) looks better.

Maybe one slightly smaller bullet on each side between the inner headlight and the (current) outermost bullet. that span there is a tad too wide without something in it. You did a great job evolving the look

    Those bullets are like rabbits......:p

  16. Looks great as is now:D. I saw someone do something similiar a few years ago using dummy spotlights, but yours looks better, and the rings help.

What he said. You made a huge improvement in the car with few modifications. Instead of just slapping something else in there you kept thinking about it and improving it. Well done.

Thanks for the good words guys.
I've been wondering about putting in more bullets as I like the look of them, especially on the pic added below I found in another topic here. But I want to be carefull not to overdo it.

Or indeed put a couple of smaller ones to fill in the gaps on the sides a bit. Need to ponder about that some more I guess.

Wirth Automotive is where I got mine. But there are more of these shops around.
Just look for 'cones', not bullets.

The chrome bumper and wheels were a better improvement than the bullets....

Me and a friend of mine both agreed aswell the other day the car looked actually better with the open polished grille than with the (then still 5) bullets in them.
But I had my mind set on having the bullets so I wanted them in the grille. I do think the bullets say 'Custom' a bit more then just the open polished grille.

Looks good. 'Unpainting' the trim under the headlights helped a lot too.
