  13. Eric, I don't remember a return road on the West side of Muncie Dragway??? The line up of gassers is Muncie but the single car photo doesn't look correct...or is it?

I have seen that Garlits Dart photo before, it does make you wonder where most of these old cars posted here are now.

Garlits Dart, the one sitting derelict in that photo, is sitting in his museum, complete. The body has not been restored, it was just cleaned up.

Not a lick this year, but I think we'll be on it soon. I was real busy with business this year, now I've changed companies, have more time, getting the shop re-equipped, etc. I'm hopefull it'll be up on wheels, if not running, but the end of summer 2011.
    Thanks for asking!

^^^ I believe that body was behind Garlits' shop. From what I remember. ^^^

  23. I saw that car in Garlits' museum and on display in 1993 so it has been with him at least that long. Paint was old and weathered and appeared original at that time.

I was at Detroit Dragway the day the Dart body flew off. It launched straight up towards the end of the run.

No I dont think it is. Korney retianed his car for many years. It was also Chrysler powered not Chevy. Also the body here bares a slightly different shape and form than that used by Korney and he relied on American spokes on the front, not Halibrands as depicted here.

    Geno,

I do believe that the single car shot IS a Muncie shot as everything else is spot on..including the embanked bleacher base. If you look at the pavement on both shots with the little edge, I think it is the same. I would have been 5 years old in '63, so I do not remember if the return road was on the West side then. You are right, my memory is that the cars exited east from their runs and went right back into the pits. However, this could have been how Dad had it up to this period. I know that we later built a sloping "ditch" from the outside of each lane that ended up being a barrier from the stands...meaning that if I car got out of hand, it would drive down the embankment and hit dirt instead of the stands. Obviously, not the best thing, but we tried to do everything we could to avoid problems. Thanks-you are, as always, very observant!!!! E

Maybe it was just my netbook (although it worked OK back in March and also in May) but everytime I tried to post or switch sites it dropped the connection. I tried both available connections so maybe it was just me.
