There's a red and black one for sale south of town, looks pretty nice from the road, good paint looks like if interested in one.
Here is the '56 Merc I had back in 1963 when I was in high school. That's me on the right side and my ol buddy Gary Mills on the driver's side. Plus a couple others to include the "Jade Idol" by Gen Winfield.
chopped56..i saw your ride at the long beach motor rama the other week, truly a masterpiece,i kept going back to it over and over again.Great ride.
Yeah ,the Richelieu is like the Montclair. Same top as a '56 Ford Victoria. The Monarch Lucerne is like the Monterey. Still have my '55 Lucerne out in the garage; one of about 250 built.
Figured yall may like this picture. Its of my Granpa, he passed when my mom was young so i never got to meet him. Not sure of year of this picture. I would love to have a montclair just like this picture, maybe when i learn enough on my new truck ill get it built then buy a montclair...

]Think sledge has one beautiful 56. I've see it at shows, and very sweet car. I have a 55 custom and here a few pictures, It is done in a 1950s mild custom style. has a new rebuilt Y block 292 built to 312, with a mild cam. and power brakes. Interior is all redone in Gray cloth and leather Just made a consoul for it.
Here is my dad and my '55 Mercury Monterrey. My grandfather bought it new in '55 and is the only person who ever owned it. Interior: Some day I hope to bag it like this:
I helped a friend get this to its new home this morning. 1955 Mercury Custom 43,xxx miles purchased from original owner's 75 year old son last inspected 1986 solid solid solid 292 3 speed 5 hubcaps in the floorboard!
a 1955 monarch found in the belgium woods too far gone to save the rear is in my garden built in too a bbq
Yet nobodys mentioned Mercurys - M 260 dual quad engine option kit that was availiable in 1956? Oldmics
I believe the Montclaire top was lower than the Monterey. I skipped school one day in 1973 and was out cruising in my brothers 69 Barracuda when I spotted my Merc for sale at a local gas station on Detroit's east side. 56 Mercury Montclair 2dr hardtop with a black rolled and pleated interior, including the dash pad. Stone stock 312 Y-Block with the Merc-o-Matic trans. As I recall reverse was all the way down. The body was painted all black by then as it was originally two tone black and yellow. Paid $650.00 for it and drove it for the next 5 years. Sold it for $1200.00 ans was happy because I made a profit. In those 5 years I never saw another one ever. Not even at a show. One of the few cars that I owned that I would like to own again.
If anyone is interested, I know of a 56 montery and a 56 Montclair, both complete, both 2 dr H/T's, The Monterey is black and white, the Montclair is persimon and white. been parked in a barn in Kansas since 95. he drove the Monterey, his wife drove the Montclair because it had power steering. Can send pics if intersted. As far as price, that would be between you and him. The owner is selling both cars. Also has a 56 4dr parts car available as well.
earlier post, one owner, 43,xxx miles, setting in barn since 1986 So 21 days later we got my buudy's 55 on the road. He is not a car guy but is ambitious, 78, and enjoying his retirement. I have worked on it 6 different days in his driveway to ensure it is dependable, safe and ready for state inspection. One of those days on the wipers! Parts purchased to date: battery cables wires plugs points condensor fuel tank sending unit headlight turn signal bulbs tires a few gaskets vacuum hose fuel line brake cylinders master cylinder brake hoses and a few trim pieces from a local parts car It was a blast to drive with the 3 speed and the 292. He didn't like me chirping his new tires. I told him I would trade him my wagon, but he was not interested. He has started the CLR treatment on a few spots with good results. His plans are to keep it mostly stock, going back with factory color and interior. I am still working on convincing him it at least needs dual exhaust and a little different stance. Oh yeah and he has ordered an aftermarket breather and is looking for skirts.
Hello, I am looking for a wiring diagram for my 1955 Mercury Montclair, also I need a driveshaft slip yoke with 16 splines and my tailshaft is 1 3/8 " od. any help would be appreciated thanks skip
The World needs more of these cars.....Is anybody building a 55-56 merc? Please avoid the temptation of adding Montclair Door Trim unless you can't live without it...it's getting to be cliche'......Lets get those Montereys on the road........
The 1955 and 1956 Mercury Montclairs came as 2dr. hardtops, 4 door sedans, and convertibles. I beleive they called the 4 dr. Montclair a Phaeton in at least 1956.
