1930 bugatii undressed

i took these pics the week before Monterey and Pebble Beach shows. the car came in for a complete detail. the guy that owns it didn't take good care of storing it. it had surface rust all over and oxidation. it was in sad condition.

polishing the engine was a heck of a job. even trying to get all the nooks and crannies.

some might have never seen a Bugatii up close let alone undressed. so i took pics to share.

awesome, hope you got to hear it run, they sound fantastic and were an extremly fast car in their day and still surprisingly fast. There is a guy near me who has a few and Ive been in the workshop for a look.

 

I've never seen detail shots of a Bug like these, very nice, thanks for posting.

Truly an awesome example of "old world" craftsmanship and functional art.

 

Ok, I'll bite. What's the copper tube for? Is the manifold split internally, and it acts as a balance tube?

BTW, thanks for documenting & posting 'em up...it made a GREAT change from the "How can I get a MII suspension, power brakes & steering, and A/C on the traditional car I just bought?" posts that seem to be cropping up lately.

Just awesome! Is that the same color Niekamp used on his roadster? It's such a peculiar color that I can't say I would ever choose but the cars are so rad that....well their rad.

Love how tight these 5 bolts are with the safety wire. I love european race cars almost as much as I love Hot Rods.

Thanks for posting the pics. I had the chance to see a coupe torn apart several years ago, but did not have a camera with me.

After I saw one torn apart, I understood why they go for as much money as they do.

 

The little details are mind blowing. Pure mechanical art without excess.
No wonder EB was held in such high regard.

Great pics. Reminds me of the 1930 Amilcar sport i had about 25 years ago. Got the chassis done in the same light blue, had all the aluminium bits and pieces nice and shiny ( even the gearbox ) then some old guy made me an offer i could,nt refuse. Oh well.

 

unfortunately i didn't get to hear it run or drive it. the new gas tank wasn't ready.

i sat in it making vroom vroom noises though. you have to have tiny feet in order to work the peddles. it must be an art form to even drive it. you have to keep track of the advance, foot brakes, hand brakes, not touch your elbow on the wheel, fuel psi etc. just to even drive it.

 

it does seem that way. i can't remember if there was a weld to it or it just looks that way. sorry

 

Never seen one in person, but the level of detailing has always jumped out at me in the photos I have seen. Stunning cars.

 

Thank you for posting all the photos! I worked on Bugattis for 14 years, and would love to own one. That shock bracket is a wedge fit, note the stake marks to keep it in place. The link is not leather, is is Rhionceros hide, not PC these days. That open hole in the outer forgeing is for a headlight bracket if the car had the road equipment attached. The under car shots of the car on the lift give a view not many have ever seen. THANK YOU!
