  2. What little of James Dean I've ever seen in movies just made me want to kick his ass.

The most interesting thing I've ever seen even remotely connected to James Dean is the car he hit that killed him. I'd love to see a "before" shot of that coupe.

As far as I know, that has been debunked. The driver of the other car did not have the right-of-way, and was thus responsible for the accident.

Great photo. That looks like Dean's Porsche Speedster that he raced before he bought the 550 Spyder. Location looks like Palm Springs. Dean ran a sports car race at the Palm Springs Airport in his Speedster.

When I was taking driver's ed in 1966, we saw the film "Death on the Highway" that included the James Dean wreck. Supposed to scare the crap out of us, but frankly, none of us knew who J D was and we were invincible anyways. Anyone remember the film?

iirc, "little bastard" was parted out, to an extent, after the wreck. the engine was sold to another racer. apparently, that car then wrecked. other parts were sold off and "weird" things happened to either the driver or cars they were placed in.

then enters Barris. He puts the car on tour of the country promoting safe driving. funny, since it's been noted that Dean was probably driving a tick over the double nickel and had the right of way on a wye intersection. anyway, on a return trip from the East Coast, the remainder of the car "disappeared" from the rail car it was in. apparently, it hasn't been seen since.

    que the Psycho soundtrack.....
