Awesome images! Thanks for going to so much trouble to get them. These kind of shots are one of my favorite things.
Thanks Dan, No trouble. On my next trip there will be heaps more. I want to save as many as possible but because of the distances to get these things back to the city it will be hard but I'll give it a go.
I am out near the edge of the Great Sandy Desert and these ones were on a 25km stretch of road. Just caught the last 2 trailers of a road train as it went past.
Sweet pics, thanks for that! fascinated by the "outback" and amazed to see some awesome old iron out there hanging out
5th down looks to be an Austin Champ. Ex-commonwealth military, with some great features but parts are expensive and rather hard to get. Not easy to work on. Used to have four of them.
Fifth pic down, second set of pics, green 4x4. Alec Issigonis (of Mini fame) was the primary designer, all independent suspension at both ends, on torsion bars, Rolls design F head engine, same gears in reverse as forward. Capable of being driven almost completely submerged when the snorkle was fitted. Biggest problem was that they were expensive, about twice the price of a Rover 88. the Ride was so smooth troops drove them too fast on rough ground, rolling them often.
The first couple are from Marble Bar. Australia's hottest town. It's around 40c at the moment, then the old tin and steam engine is from down the road at Nullagine.
found a few old bangers rusting away locally also that you guys may like to see. all aussie stuff though.
Might have to give the Olds a miss looks like the roof has been cut off so was a sedan and has a crack in the chassis.
pretty sure this one's an early 20's dodge. there's an old cowl like this one sittin under a tree at my bosses farm.
Nice shots mate, I've been working at the red sands tavern up in newman wa for the last two months and am back home now. I saw a few car bodies up around the town but most of the stuff is 80's falcons- or rolled and smashed ek's onwards- bhp opened up most of newan with the iron ore mines in the 60s so the stuff around there is pretty late- saw some good picks of a station/ church mission bone yard 300 + km? south east of newman with 80 or more cars and trucks starting at t model fords and going up to eh's- One of the drillers took photo's on his iphone of the cars, but is reluctant to tell me exactly where. Funnily enough i've found more stuff in a day of being home on the farm that in two months up north. anyway I'll chuck up some photo's of some finds. tyler
Brilliant. We need to talk about a couple of these. Got your PM will answer soon. I just got back from north east of Newman on Monday arvo.
