Goodguys Hot Rod Week (HRW) happens each year the week prior to the West Coast Nationals in Pleasanton. The HRW tour goes all over Northern California and this year was no exception. The four days of touring covered over 750 miles!

I'm not going to list the places we went (except Vern's flathead amusement park) because a couple of them are private collections. If you know where/who they are please DO NOT SAY, out of respect for their privacy. It is a HUGE privilege to see this stuff!

We may whine about goldchainers, but thankfully they collect some cool shit!

Sorry some of the indoor shots are crappy.

If you are around next year you should tag along. HRW is open to everyone and it's FREE!!

WOW!! I'm speechless. Here's a quick test for you. After viewing this post, if your pulse is not elevated at least a little bit, you're on the wrong web site.

Thanks for posting Kirk! and sharing with us lesser mortals, however, I am not sure that just because someone has the financial wherewithal, desire and knowledge to collect these works of art that makes them a 'goldchainer' - that seems a tad judgmental. To me they are car guys - just as Jay Leno, Bruce Meyer, Don Orosco et al are car guys.

As for the 'NART spider' or $150 million is way off the mark. They built ten of these and I believe two of them were aluminum bodied. The Ferrari Club of America had accounted for nine in around 1980 and were going nuts trying to find the tenth. A Ferrari collector buddy of mine from Germany located the tenth in a back street in Madrid, Spain around 1982. The car was subsequently up for sale for £80,000 (around US $180,000 at the then prevailing £ to US $ exchange rate), through Coy's of Kensington in England in 1982. Fifteen million today - maybe, but not $150 million.

I'm in awe! What a great tour, looks like so much fun. I would have loved to see all of that in person.

Uh, the goldchainer comment is a joke. Most of the guy's whose collections we saw are friends of mine.

As for the car value, I'm just passing on the info I got. It didn't seem wrong, considering who the owner is.

  28. To build some of those amazing collections would be a full time job!

Wow, that had to be a once in a lifetime tour. I think he was referring to the sum total of all the cars that they saw on the tour Weasel. I may be wrong though.
Thanks for sharing Kirk. I think that tour will have to be added to my bucket list. I may have to go back to work after I am retired for a while just to rest up from the plans for the first year.
