Mine was pretty rusty. But I think koolkemp's coupe takes the prize.

  14. If someone wants to win this award hands down they should pick up the '40 Chevy convertible I saved a couple years ago. It was upside down when I found it. We rolled it back over and pulled it out to load and it just plain fell apart - I have about 2/3 of the frame with cowl and doors in one spot, and a rear top tub and bows in another spot, and the quarter fell off that and lays next to it... the bumpers and some other pieces are in the back of a pickup in still another spot.

But with a coupe or tudor donor to build it on, you have all the key parts, you might be able to make something. I had a lead on another one not far away, between the two there should be enough stuff to save too much fab work.

I don't get what's so popcorn-worthy about this thread. It's about the rustiest starting point for a project. There's a lot more time and talent required to build a car starting with a rotty piece of shit, compared to starting with a cherry car.

Here's some pics of my rather rusty '59 Edsel in progress

No patch panels available, have to make everything.

Haven't started on it yet, but I promise you that I will build this '55 Dodge convertible. I'm going to combine it with another car, so I don't know if it counts, but it could win the rusty contest. You can see where it broke in half in the center, and take a close look, that's a tree growing out where the engine used to be.

    100% worth it since it's a convertible.

  21. On my hunt around here for Model A's, I've brought home some pretty rusty "junk". Almost all the stuff pictured, was neglected, going nowhere, but I have found owners for everything (now their rusty projects) and I have a solid body to work with. Its the one with some black paint from the barn. The chassis is gone, I'm starting from scratch. Enjoy!

You might want to get a little bigger gas tank if you're going to be driving it much.

Here is mine, Sat in a swamp in Wyoming for undisclosed number of years.

Floors, rockers, braces, basically the bottom several inches of the car. I hope to have it painted late this winter and get the motor and trans dropped in. I dont have any recent pics but I'm stil msaking headway on it.

I bought a rusty 4 door and took the entire cowl, front clip, trunk lid and several other needed components. My next big project is get the new floors I bought installed along with new braces and inner and outer rockers.

This pic is after the cowl swap and a lot of the floor repairs started.
