One thing's for sure. It had one of the meanest looking "faces" of any car. They scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid.

If this is the same car, pics from Capitola car show June this year, the owner says it's a 413 with factory three speed on the floor. This car is all original, and pretty cool:cool:

I had a 61 tu-door post that I regretfully sold. It was so awesome looking in black primer with moon spun aluminun racing discs. Wanted to do a Bonneville theme all the way thru, well, another fantasy gone bad! ~Sololobo~

This is my absolute favorite body style. There used to be a used car dealer on long beach blv. that had a 61 belveder for $2000. I really wanted it but it was severly rotted and they wouldn't come down on the price. I heard that it went to the crusher when they sold the place.

The first Ghia L 6.4 came out in 1961 and was delivered to Frank Sinatra. That car is now in the National Automobile Museum in Reno.

    They built 26 Ghia L 6.4's from 1961 to 1963. Mine is a '62....

  12. I am sorry guys. I have seen mud fences that looked better

  13. The green Fury is very cool and well done. Exner fan here.
It's a good thing that many don't get it otherwise they'd be bellybuttons...

One of the reasons I like the 61 so much is that it has no fins. Plus they are ugly and cool at the same time.

  16. i like alot of the late 50's- early 60's exner mopars wouldnt kick many of them out of the garage 61 fury being one of my top favs

    Hey,

    That's one hot lookin' Chrysler!
Did you restore it, or buy it completed? I've been told the ''metalwork'' Ghia did to build these was a bit rough-
panels welded with little regard to rust traps, solid welded parts with no rubber mounts and a good deal of putty to finish them off.

Were time/money no object, I'd like to build a '62 Plymouth Super Sport from a '61 shell. A tough project given so little pictures/spects. are extant on the Super Sport.

Do you know the guy who owns the yellow Ghia 6.4 I've seen , here in California?

    Hey,

Given the total production of '61's was 188,170, and given that maybe of that number 25-30 thousand were Furys in all body styles (hell, Chevrolet probably built that number of vehicles before lunch) and the fact this was the first year for full unitized construction (unibody)-serious rust problems, there's little chance these will ever become ''bellybuttons''.

I've never seen an original sixty-one that didn't need rust repair, someware, even here, in Southern California.

My dad painted this one a couple of years ago, it had some of the most perfect metal finished panels he could remember. The whole car required about a quart of filler to get it straight. He was impressed. More pictures here.

Is it worth mentioning that both red '58s in this thread are not Furys?

  24. ALL 56-58 Furys were Buckskin beige from the factory.

    hey,

Your dad did a very good job on that Ghia 6.4! I see he likes Ditzler/PPG, as well.
I'd hate to restore a Chrysler like that for a cheap owner!
The additional album photos of the other Mopars were great, as well.
    Thanks again.
