How do they sound with four pipes? Do they have a different sound?

 

Bought a set of repops for my 46 Olds sedanette. Adding some 'Fauxsmobile' rocker covers, Powergen alternator and a 6x2 crossram. Can't wait to dummy fit everything.

 

Hmm... Is the center still divided? Or does it allow for crossflow of middle cylinders?

Would be neat if you could pipe it for that flat crank sound.

 

I have a question on these. Can you run them using conventional style front motor mounts or do you need to use the Hurst style mount that goes all the way in the front of the engine? Thanks, Todd

 

I am running a Hurst mount but any front mount would work.

That's sweet as hell. Not just the Rebel wire part either. If you run a hurst mount though you have to run an electric fuel pump. Correct?? Interested in selling the rams horns you had on there? Todd

 

You can notch the hurst mount or I would just suggest making your own so you can get the engine at the height that you'd like with no spaces. I used all the original Hurst kit stuff in mine so I needed an electric fuel pump....which I don't mind only because I am a nit picking asshole and hate how the fuel pump lines have to run from the front to the other side to meet up with the carbs.

 

With the right Mech pump, some spacers and a touch of grinding you can run the Hurst style mount with a mechanical pump

 

Thanks Todd. If I am not mistaken, Titus used a Hurst mount and mech pump in that red roadster he just built.

Hindsight being what it is, I would have used my stock front mounts and mech pump were I to do it over again. Because of those huge mounts I made off the frame a mech pump would not fit without some serious mods. Oh well, live and learn I guess. I'll get back to you on the ram's horns.

I would say so, especially if you haven't located the steering box mount on the frame yet.

 

If by "conventional", you mean the stock '55-'57 mounts, yes.

If ran with 4 exhaust pipes, what size would you run with a mostly stock internal 283?

 

The outlets are 1-1/2". I ran mine 2 into 1 and then 2" out.

 

Does anybody have more pics of these beauties installed? Also are the 200 repops all sold?

I just talked to Patrick and they still have these and he quoted me $300. Better for me I got one side of a busted set for $150. With a little work it will go on my 153 Chevy 4 cylinder!

 

Forgot to mention, I'm using side mounts and made similar LS series to SBC mounting plates to clear exhaust outlets on my 383. I moved mounts back the width of mount, around 3". Only reason was to clear exhaust. Hurst style mount wouldn't fit with low mounted AC & PS. Also had to fabricate a generator bracket to bolt onto headers with LWP.
