Technical GASSER SURVIVOR!!! 1933 3 window Ford. Whats the history?

I went to my buddys (Daves) house last night to par-take in some beer drinking and saw that he had pulled his all steel 33 3 window out of the corner of his shop. He has owned this car for 15 years now. After trying to convince him to bring it to the Day of the Drags I asked if I could take some pictures and see if anyone on the HAMB can give us some history about the car. Thanks for any info. Im sure David will chime in here if anybody has questions.

 

Not sure, I'll keep an eye for it as I'm flipping through old mags though.

Best I can recall Dave offered to store this 33 for me for $1 per year about 15 years ago. I'm now ready to pick her up, have Dave give me a call.

I called Dave and he said he believes in came form Sealy Tx. It was raced in San Antonio and at the Drag strip down in Dickinson (Galveston area). I hope that helps. We would love to see some old pics of it.

Didn't they all have to have fenders to run in the GAS class? I think there were probably quite a few by the late 50's.

 

Right, but I was refering to 33-4 fords as gassers, seems most vintage pictures show less fenders.

 

Oh yeah I guess that's certainly true.. It makes you wonder why since this one looks so awesome though huh? Now I want me a '33 gasser hahah!!!


There's a couple outtakes in the TRJ books where it shows 60's drag racing at it's best and it showcases a couple really cool gas class coupes like the Mr. Chevy '32 coupe and I believe there was an Orangey Red '32 Ford with American 5's on it. This car would fit right in with them!!!

I'll bet I can conjure up some history on it. Let's see, well, it used to go really fast for 1320 ft at a time.

Pretty good looking old coupe. It would be great to see it back to it's former glory. Hell it would be pretty slick to see it in a new glory making new history.

Now that it's awake after a fifteen year slumber in the corner of the shop, what are the plans for it?

 

He plans on building a period correct traditonal style high boy. Cadillac motor, quick-change rear end...

 

It still amazes me that there is still old race cars hiding in peoples shops,barns,garages,etc. just waiting to see the light of day.Cool old gasser by the way.
