You guys are awesome!!!!! Used to bead roll all my dirt latemodel cars back in the 80's and 90's.......they don't do that anymore! Retired from racing last year and am currently working on a 32 ford coupe...draggin that bead roller out of the dungen, blowing all the grime off and gonna do the interior in aluminum!!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

 

what type of die do you guys use for the lettering?....tipping wheel? I don't know how you cut such sharp curves without distorting the panel

 

Step dies.

I never run my dies at full depth. I'm using .032 material, .090 step cut dies, but I only run at half depth, so I get around a .045 step. That's plenty in the thin stuff to be able to see the step and won't distort the panel much at all. It also lets you turn tight radius corners. On the letters with 90-degree sharp corners, each are two separate lines that meet at the corner.

Straight lines and smooth curves are the foundation for all that stuff. You gotta master the basics before you can do the crazy designs, if you want them to look good.

This thread shouldn't be just the pros posting pictures.

That is a cool trophy John. Beats the gold plated plastic or walnut stained pine plaque. That is a conversation piece.
