  3. It will be there but sans the blower, am building a new short block with forged pistons, cam etc. Will have a 390 with bolt on stuff till I get the blower block finished. Got the new Rodwell top on it, etc. Drove it LARS and back, had a blast!!

WOW those are some great pics and info..... Thanks!

Whats the deal with the drive set up? what is the length? I figure if i could find one for a small block or something I would just position it right and build the manifoldd from there.... but I don't want it to be too far forward or something....

I am definately running strombergs, two carbs do rule..... but if I need more..... I need more.....

Damn I love those pics.... It is between the caddy engine and the full race olds with all the gotha stuff, but I've just been obsessed with blowers all summer....

What about chain drive? soooo bad ass, but just seems dumb for the street? the coolest thing is I could build a chain guard for it......

Tudor if you are you talking about letting the top go or the whole works..... I would be interested in the whole works, and I do have magnesium.... haha...

I would imagine I would run it a bit underdriven.... The motor is bored out but has flat pistons...I need to find out all of the details....

Here are the pictures of the homemade intake I mentioned. Looks like a pretty big job, but if you can TIG Aluminium it is possible. You probably would need an original to measure and make a jig so that it does not move around too much. I think Dave can tell you about warped blower manifolds.

that thing is a work of art

as for jig, I would think if you bolted the peices to a core block and heads with gaskets that would be the best you could get

Huh??? I agree that two Stromberg 2-bbls
are probably not enough carburetion for
making a whole lot of horsepower, but
how do you figure that going using carbs
with somewhat limited and less the optimum
airflow capability will in any way cause the
engine to go "lean out" and "blow up"???

All under-carbureting a blown enhgine will do
is cause a restriction and limit the amount of
boost and horsepower that can be produced.
You need jets sized big enough to be capable
of flowing the amount of fuel required to
support the horsepower level the engine is
producing and obviously the total of 4 jets used
in a 2-2bbl setup would need to be bigger,
individually than the 6 or 8 jets used in an
    equivalent horsepower-level 3-2bbl or 2-4bbl
    equipped engine , but 'under-carburating' - ie
    - using carbs with less than optimum airflow
capability - will merely limit the amount of boost
and horsepower the engine will produce - and
assuming the carbs are jetted properly (which
is necessary. *regardless* of how big or small
the carbs are), 'under-carbureting' by itself,
will not cause a "lean-out" situation or cause
    the engine to "blow up".

You are probably right - I was just remembering an old tale, which may be BS, of restricted carbs causing leanout under boost, causing detonation, burning a piston. Might have been caused by a vacuum leak in the carb, might have been caused by some other bit of poor tuning and a guy looking for an excuse. With good carbs I agree it should not happen, but Strombergs are old.

The other guys on this thread have other good ideas regarding timing, distributor, cam, etc. - I was just advising caution on carb selection, to protect the investment. (I think it's a great motor to build and I want to see it run!)

subscribed! I've been wanting to do this to my 55 GMC, there is enough room to even keep it under the hood.

Here is a 4-71 on a 331 caddy in a 34 5w my dad is doing for a customer now. Uses a crager manifold along with a crager front snout. My dad machined all of the 3 belt pullies.

Wow thats awesome! I've got the blower and have been doing a lot of thinking on how to pull this off......

I just scored a Cragar 4x2 manifold...... its basically the same as the blower manifolds, so it will be easy to convert, but its a pretty rare manifold so it might be a bad idea..... I might offer it up for trade bate torwards a blower intake, but if I can't find one I think I might have to cut it up.....

Fuck em if they can't take a joke.......... haha Hot rods are cool.

I am super excited about this blower stuff!

Do you have any other pictures of what he did with the water pump? The crossover has been eliminated at the head, but the pump body looks like it attaches to the block like a stock pump. Interesting....

Does Dad feel like making another set of pulleys? :D

Your on your way Bob, the drive seems to be one of the hardest parts, i guess along with the manifold.

ill probably end up with a newer drive for my olds, but ill make it look the part.

i have a buddy with nos 3 groove pullys that im trying to finagle out of him, he doesnt want to part with em yet.
