This is another great photo. it's a 1914-15 Simplex 75 hp. Here are some more photos of what I think is the same car. Anyone have any more photos of this or know anything about it?

Found this on the web, Harris Hanshue won the first Santa Monica race in 1909. Maybe this is it?

    NOT before WWII, BUT during.
I doubt anybody could identify the location.
This is the garage/gas station in Los Alamos, NM summer of 1944.
The 1936 Ford 2dr was our family car. That's a 1942 Merc next to it.

    Cool trucks.....I want one!:D Oddly (I think)
for New Zealand, they appear to be LHD.
Were they imported from the U.S.? Does
anybody have any idea of the make? I just
noticed too....that load of tires they're hauling
are Michelins. I had no idea that Michelins were
being sold outside of France that early, let alone
being exported worldwide and to places as far
    away as New Zealand!

They may be Autocar trucks. Michelin had a factory in New Jersey pre WWI if my memory is correct.

Anyone else see the irony in the pic. of the truck loads of Michelin tires?

Yeah...the trucks, like most (all) 'heavy trucks'
of the day, are rolling on solid rubber tires. The
Michelins they're hauling are all pneumatics, for
    use on cars.

I wonder if they are electrics? The huge box slung under could well be for the batteries, and I notice only a brake lever on the front truck cab view. Walkers? Here's one Shorpy posted a while ago.

Those are Orwell electrics (it says on them) made by Ransome the British steam engine manufacturer. They started building these 2 1/2 ton front wheel drives in 1920.
It's sad we lost so many of those grand old buildings in the quakes this past week.

Ouch - well, maybe I get 1/2 credit? I should have examined them a wee bit closer. Thanks, ehdubya.
