    In 1939 38,197 standard coupes were made.The 39 comes with a v-8,duel wipers and
hydrulic brakes, and spare tire in the trunk

A drive in the '39 will convince you that you will be a fool if you don't trade. Nice lookng A but no way a comparible car to the '39. More room, better ride, v8, hydraulic brakes..............I'll stop but for goodness sakes...........TRADE!!!!:D

The car was originally a v-8 60, the 60 is still around just swapped for the bigger v-8 because the guy wanted more power. I drove the car and it drove very well, had lots of power and the brakes were spot on. It does have a little putty in it but it is very mininal. Basically the back tail pan. Doors were clean, lined up perfect and shut perfect. I have to decide by tomorrow morning so I got a long night ahead of me.

  4. 39 - and I like them both - sounds like a good swap for both of you.

Both cars look GREAT, I think this is a great swap. The '39 is a standard, don't know what is involved cost wise is swapping out for a Deluxe grille, hood and fenders, if in fact you like the Deluxe look. That '29 sits real nice.

I actually like the standards better than the deluxe so that is no issue. This car has a radio and heater which is weird for being a standard v8-60. What to do, what to do...........................

Trade you will be very happy with the results.

  8. Do what makes you happy. Good fair trade, if anything I would say the 39 is worth more.

  9. Heck what a position to be in, I want both thanks, but the '39 seems to be an excellent choice,so go with the '39.

I'd keep the A but I'm a big fan of those.
This thread does make your signature kinda ironic though.:D

  11. I like the 39, but you're the guy behind the wheel.

I'd love to own THAT A-Bone just the way it sits. I couldn't do that swap. DD

I'd be guessing your A is worth maybe about $7500 to maybe $10K depending on how good it really is.

I would have thought the 39 would bring more then that but arent up to speed with their values.

Perhaps that helps, perhaps not. :)

I like your A, but the 39 would be my choice. Good luck with your decision. :)

  17. Got the wife a 39 Standard Coupe a few years ago because she wanted a "round red car". I prefer driving it with SBC, auto trans, power steering, brakes and A/C to my 32 Hot Rod with a blower motor. Buuuuuuut the 32 gets more looks on the road. A real dilema. I'd recommend you take the 39 for all the reasons cited previously.

Seems a pretty straight trade to me. With them both in such the same condition, Id think to myself......what is my dream car and why. then Id pick the one that is closest to that thought.

Its obivisouly neither of them are your dream car or you wouldnt even be asking us our opnions, so pick which is closest to you what you really want out of a car for this life. They both look good and Id personally go with the Model A, but thats just me..... you gotta pick for YOU.

You know how hard it will be to replace the "A"

I've owned a Model A coupe and a '39 Standard coupe. I wish I still had the '39 Standard. So I'd say "trade!"

I've had a 29 Model A Sedan Delivery and a '39 Standard Coupe. It ain't even a contest, take the 39 and say "thank you very much".

The back tailpan .. a.k.a. "tool compartment".. is a common problem on these cars but is a relatively easy fix. Drake sells a good one. I've built two '39's, a Deluxe coupe and a Standard 2-dr. sedan so you know what my choice would be! ;)

The Deluxe and Standard cowls are different - the Deluxe sheet metal will not bolt on to a Standard. That's not to say it can't be done - I saw a primered '39 Ford pickup at Goodguys a few years ago that had a '39 Standard passenger car front end grafted onto it. It looked like something the factory should have done.

THANK YOU! That is a great piece of info, was this the first year Ford used different cowl sections for Standard vs Deluxe models? :)

Another vote for the 39---I'm biased.

  27. Only because you asked..'39 would be my choice. Whichever way you decide, make the decision for your reasons.

Exactly...both cars are very cool, but for different reasons.
Which one do you like better?

If it were me, I'd keep the A and try to buy the '39..:)

Well, being I'm 6'2, and had a bone stock 29 roadster that I restored and was really uncomfortable in I'd say go for the 39 driveabilty wise its a no brainer. But I gotta tell you I do miss my roadster, it was a fun car to drive if no one else was on the road to aggravate me! lol

    Do the swap.

That looks like a great deal and if you like the 39 there is no real question is there.
