Gennie shifter going out of buisiness?

Don't want to knock the workers at Gennie but I wouldn't buy a product that was made by people who were pissed off and hadn't been paid!

If the owners are taking in profits and screwing their employees they shouldn't be patronized at all!

Met him once - kind of a arrogant type ain't he! Acted like he was doing me a big ole' favor even selling me something . . . only bought once, the attitude was too much for me.

Heres a photo I took this morning of the for sale sign out the front of the Streamline warehouse and Gennie shifter building.
It,s been for sale for a couple of months at least.
What does that tell you!!

Was thinking the same thing. He'd probably outsource the line to China.

We can go back to the old way; 4 speed or 'Stang shifters. Problem solved.

this definately sucks! I have been searching for a rear mount for a C-4 with no luck. If anyones got one pm me and lets make a deal. If not I guess i'm stuck with a push button. Guess thats what I get for dragging my feet.

 

really, these shifters are not rocket science..I bet the tallent on here, someone could make these suckers, and even do a better job of it..without the attitude

 

Wow....that does suck, not only for the employees but the customers like me who like their product. I don't know how someone could go that long without being paid and continue to go to work. Was this guys name Milton or Mike?

 

His name is Mike .He started at Gennie Shifter while I still worked at Streamline.

 

Sorry Steve, I was making a bad joke in reference to the movie "Office Space" where the character "Milton" continues to come to work wondering why he hasn't been paid in the last weeks. You'd have to see the movie.

I don't mean to be joking about the guys (Mike's) situation, but in the end of Office Space, Milton wins!

I hope Gennie gets there act together.

"My employer doesn't want to pay what they owe me...over 8 grand...8.5 weeks of pay... not all at once has been over time...also hasn't paid 401k over 4 grand..."

You are correct. In fact, in an old issue of Street Rodder, the man who started Gennie did a tech article on just that. Used an old shifter top from a manual something, ran two cables to the shift arm, and mounted the shifter top to the automatic with strap. True, there was no 'gate', but it sure looked the part.

This was before he started Gennie. The whole was super simple, prolly harder to explain than to do.

Oh, yeah, I no longer have that issue.

Funny thing is, I called them the other day to ask about production since nobody seems to have em in stock. The lady I spoke with said they had an issue getting their raw materials for manufacturing at the price they needed but it was all squared away now and they should start shipping in about two weeks. They should probably have mentioned they are going out of business.

 

Who cares if they go out of business........it will only affect the "bolt on guys". On our more serious rods we generally use Hurst on Richmonds and fab our own for the automatics just like we did before the "streetrodder types" needed bolt on stuff for their plastic hot rods. I will admit I do buy Lokar and Gennie stuff for my customers building "softer ride's" with auto's because they can't afford one off shift mechanisms.

WTF??? jerry ^^^^ so everybody should have the skills to build their own shifter or pay to have a custom unit built or be lumped into the "softer class" of hot rod??????

i can guarantee..there are way more cars built out there with production shifters in them , than some ones home made device...they dont deserve to exist Jerry? because you basically said these guys jobs dont matter ,(there are people attached to these products, they dont produce them selfs) for all of us should build all of our own components?

I really hope this isnt so...

I did a buy-in as a dealer 4 months ago($3k US)...I have only received half my order.

The girl I have been dealing with has been telling me for a few weeks they have had issues with a supplier of some of their components and we should see the balance of my order soon.

I have plenty of sticks and throttle cables but not 1 shifter mechanism or handbrake component.

And I guess being in Australia wont help.

I have had gennie shifters in several of my "soft rods". I really prefer them over the lokar. Hopefully someone will keep making them....

I don't know about you guys . . . but I don't think anybody really likes a 'Soft Rod' AND, I don't think many of us HAMBers even want to be accused as such!

 

Yup, I put one in the old TOuring and sold the Lokar I had instead. Those shifts sure didnt feel SOFT at 5 grand!@

I went down to the store earlier this summer to pick one up.
I got the same story, but they did have a few chunks laying around and built me up one for a rear mount 700.

They are nice products, and I really like the gates.

Yup it was in a Model A roadster. Their phones started ringing when that photo shoot came out. Soon after he developed his idea for marketing.
