k9racer, I think you've hit on it. This was a trick I heard of being used on some USAC Silver Crown cars in the 90s. The wire in there would fool the pump.

Had to add my two cents worth to the Hartman/Wisecarver story on pg 154.The #41 in the 2nd pic above is Dorus Wisecarver, he lived in the Roseville, Ohio area, and operated a trucking company, I think with his brothers. He started the Daytona 500 in 1967, in this same #41. That #101 sure does look like Hartman's #75, and on the lower rear quarter, it says "Engine by Hartman". Also, all the cars I remember from the Zanesville area, had the same style numbers painted on them, Ron Dolen's #144 for example. We in SE Ohio were also led to believe (contrary to some) that Hartman, Wisecarver and a couple others that ran Mopars from up there, WERE receiving some Chrysler factory assistance, at least in the engine department, perhaps thru Hartman (thru the mid seventies anyway).

Did your dad use N.D. as kind of a play on "Indy", as perhaps he started out as an open wheel driver or did he always use his initials?

7-Ramo Stott, Keokuk, Iowa; 20-Jerry Norris, Louisville, Ky.
    Third photo:
2-Andy Hampton, Louisville, Ky.; 149-Walt Ragland, Louisville, Ky.; 1-Tom Bowsher, Springfield, Ohio.
    Fourth photo:

    John,
Could the # 3 car be Ed Richardville ?

After I got home from work tonight I looked for a couple of Ed Richardville photos to see if I had the same car as previously shown. I have a couple of shots - 1967 and 1968 or 9. The Chevelle car has a # 3 done in the same font, so I am fairly certain the # 3 in the previous photo is Ed Richardville. He is my "Photo of the Day" !

    Enjoy...

You've got it right, I'm sure, Steve. Also, I'm positive the Mustang No. 74 in your Photo of the Day is Al Straub of Louisville. Must have been a race my brother couldn't make, because there's Brownie putting the cars in line.

sm66p...in Post 3612 the last photo looks like either Ed VanderLaan or Randy Sweet. I'm betting Ed V because of the spoiler. Also looks like IRP.

Hey Indybigjohn. I think the #82 in post 3606 and the #18 with a 1 added yellow ford in post #3612 is Frank Dewboys. I remember Danny Dean saying he bought the 68 torino from Frank. He then changed the red numbers and trim to blue. This is the car I bought from Danny that eventually ended up in North Carolina. Dewboys was a Fairgrounds regular and ran ARCA also. The #1 in Post 3613 looks like Ernie Derr the IMCA stockcar champion. In post 3614 the #6 Javelin looks like the Donahue car and the Mustang looks like the parnelli Jones car. Allstarracing

In post #3606 could the #2 be Ramo Stott? He ran some of the ARCA races. Could the #20 Chevelle be Jerry Norris? Allstarracing

3614 is the 1970 Trans-Am at Road America. You can almost smell the brats grilling up the hill in the photo.

#1 Camaro - Jim Hall in his final competition start.
    #6 Javelin - Mark Donohue
    #15 Mustang - Parnelli

    Beautiful pics, thanks for posting.

Thanks, racewriter and allstarracing. I had forgotten about Frank Dewboys.

Sewman is right, the 2 is Hampton and the 7 is Stott, as identified in Post 3603. Also identified the 20 as Jerry Norris.

Great thread brings back a lot of good memories. I grew up in the Fort Wayne,IN.area. Been a race fan since 1954. Any one remember these racetracks in the Fort Wayne area South anthony, Baer Field,Avilla.I have a autographed photo of Joy Fair the night he won the feature at Baer Field with his Falcon 7-14-1964 on the wall at my work. He sure gave the local guys something to think about. My favorite local driver is Moose Meyers in "0" owned by Jim Stovall. I looked forward to going to the Dri-Powr 400 at Winchester in the fall.I got to see a lot of big name drivers, even saw Harry Gant when he was racing his Nova.

Note the driver of the #72 wasn't wearing any gloves. We've come a long way in safety.
