More pictures have been added today. Dexter "Pop" Bradford has been hot rodding for a long time, member of the San Pedro Rod Riders. He is 83 and built one mean ass Nitro motor for my Fueler. He did all the machine work and assembly of the long block. Here is a picture of Pop back in 1950, 3/8 x 3/8 46 Flathead and ran 113 mph in 1955 at the Santa Ana Drags with Jack ''Silver Fox" Ewell driving. Pops & Randy Bradfords Fuel Altered at Norwalk recently.

Hi all, I added more pictures to my picture album up to getting ready for the 50th Winternationals. It was a real honor to be in the 50th Winternationals Car Corral with all the other historical drag racing cars that raced at Pomona.

I thought I would add some information for those who have the desire to build their own dragster. A good source for for chassis parts is The Chassis Shop, (www.chassisshop.com) and Mark Williams Ent,(www.markwilliams.com) There are many others, but these are the two primary ones I used. Lets start from the front with the MW Dragster Torsion Bar Assembly Pt No. 35300, the Front Spindle Assembly Pt. No.31210 and three 6'' Steering arms Pt. No. 31217. You may have to bend the tie rod arms to clear the torsion bar arms on both ends at the same parallel plane with the spindle so the rod ends don't bind up. The steering arm will have to be twisted so the drag link end is ground parallel and the spindle end to match the spindle caster angle. As for the Rod Ends aka Heim Joints, I highly recommend the 3/8 4130 Chrome Moly type for the radius rods and steering. I only have two Left Hand rod ends, one on the tie rod and one on the main drag link (my dragster has a two part drag link) and both of those are attached to the left spindle arms. Easy for me to remember. The Chassis Shop has a good selection of brackets. For the Radius Rod Chassis Mounts use Pt. No. C-73-221-4, Motorplate Mounts C73-201-4 & C73-202-4(2 each), and the Master Cylinder bracket C73-212 for a Wilwood Master Cylinder 260-1304 ( 3/4''). A 2 psi Residual Pressure Valve Wilwood 260-1874 should be used if your master cylinder is below the brake calipers. The front hoop for a 3 point rollcage use C42-290 and the Back Rollcage Tube C42-292. 5 & 6 Point Rollcages kits are also availiable from The Chassis Shop. Both MW and CS have different style mounting brackets for the steering box. Use 5/16 NC studs and nyloc nuts instead of bolts to mount the steering box to the bracket to make it vibration proof. Check out both suppliers and do some carefull shopping. The parts listed above is what I used on my chassis except I made all the brackets out of 1/8 & 3/16 4130 sheet material.

Holy crap ! Brissette recreation at 2010 Kingdon( where da smoke?) and the real deal early 1965 at Lions.

 

I got a feelin' that whoever is driving doesn't want to hurt it. Look at the rear wheels & tires on the 1965 shot. Also look at the left front wheel in the 1965 shot vs the 2010 shot.
And maybe the track prep was different in 1965 vs 2010.

I just found out that Wild Bill's son Rod Alexander passed away of what was apparently a brain aneurysm. Rod was a very talented kid who did the reproduction of the Ernie's Camera car and was almost solely responsible for taking care of Bill after his mugging.

I am bummed out, sorry but this one hurts.

With over 120 Nitro racecars on the Famoso grounds, and the largest attendance ever at the CHRR, this event was a BLOWOUT ! The stands and along the fences were PACKED for the Cacklefest.

The First two rows as you entered the Pits south of the staging lanes were Cackle cars. Lined up like the old days with cars and trailers in the late 1960s. Walk 10 feet and see your favorite cackler and meet the Heros of the sport. If you kept walking there were even more cacklers to see and in the Grove also.

The call to the lanes for the Cacklefest came out. Push start vehicles everywhere, warmed up Cacklers by their pit and it started. It was like a poker game, who would make the first move to the lanes. AHHH like the old days going in the lanes for qualifying.

Talk about Hardcore ! No one moved ! 5 minutes go, 10 minutes go by, and no one moved, not one Cackler was in the lanes except for the Frantic Four. Then we heard the second call to the lanes and not a Cackler or a team moved an inch.

The NHRA Staging Lanes Cat Herder came over. No one moved. Third call to the lanes with a added '' OR YOU WILL BE EXCLUDED FOR THE CACKLEFEST ''!

I twiched first and rolled out. The roar from the other teams and the push start vehicles fired up and away we all went to the lanes. I gave everyone the Flying Finger of Fate to the rest of the poker players and the parade started. TOO MUCH FUN !

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO YOU ARE, LEAVE YOUR ATTITUDE IN THE TRAILER, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO WORKED ON IT, OR BUILT IT, BECAUSE WHEN YOU ROLL OUT YOUR CACKLER, IT IS ALL ABOUT THE RACECAR AND THE MEMORIES OF A GREAT ERA.
