55-57 T-bird Gasser and Altered pics?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bugman, May 5, 2006.

  1. Love your car, perfect stance, perfect wheels and tires.
How does it handle on the street, at times I wish I'd have gone this route with my t-bird.

  2. McCullough centrifugal supercharger into three deuces on this one.

    Y-block powered, of course.

Little more smooth for Daytona Beach speed trials.

My current era favorite, with blown 312

  3. Local car that raced at CT Dragway. Has a crazy metal flake paint job and is powered by a dual quad 427 FE.

I never really wanted an early T bird because I thought they were a Grandpa Wagon but damn these things rock as gassers. I will take mine with a big block Chevy please!!!!

Thanks for the compliments guys, it handles quite well, typical visibility issues from the small windshield and the rake but steers and rides quite well. On to a 57 Vette soon for the same customer.

Some video of a gasser-style T-bird racing a 55 Chev. I believe this is a Washington state car that was recently featured in Rod and Culture, or something like that. Also same as K-Member's friend's car, pictured earlier on this thread (but now with flames)?

  11. I think this car is currently on E-Bay. It would be nice nestled in amongst my Chevs. I like it.

Not exactly a gasser or altered, but a great looking and hard running car was Wayne Torkleson's. Here it is back in about '88:

FYI- The red "Salty's Super Shaker" Thunderbird pictured elsewhere in this thread, was honored, and won a show award at this past Sunday's NOSTALGIA SUMMERNATIONALS at E-Town Old Bridge Township Raceway Park... The 'Bird is certainly pristine in appearance and has plenty of personality-- Fans were oogling over it all day-- Glad to see the car get the recognition it deserves...
