Projects My First Custom - Shoebox Project

In the last five years, I've built a hot rod, a bike, and a shop truck.

I've gotta have something to tinker with in the winter, so I started thinking about my next project, building a cool custom.

I've been on the lookout for a decent 49-50 Ford sedan for a few months, and had gotten word through Sam F. (remember him) that JunkyardJunky (Jonathan) might be picking one up from Kansas.

Jonathan bought it, drug it back to KY, we struck a deal, and he delivered it to the house.

 

Damn, looks like a good start. Ill be watching this one. What are your plans?

 

The old girl has a decent amount of rust, she will need new rockers, partial floors, toeboards, and quarter patches.

I started last night, cleaning her out....

 

The previous owner dropped a ford smallblock in her, and that's as far as he got. Literally, there are no motor or trans mounts, it's just laying in there.

After looking up the numbers on the motor and tranny, it's a 76 Mustang II 302 2V with a 4 speed manual, that's not what I have planned, so maybe I can get a couple of bucks out of it.

 

The 49-50 Fords are my favorite Fords of all time. It looks like it is pretty solid except the floors. What transmission is that?

 

Tons of potential with that one.

The plan is to have her running/driving with most of the bodywork done in one year, with a budget of about $6K.

This will include a healthy static drop, and a mild chop, 4 -5 inches.

The next year, I plan to spend another $4K, and have her complete, including nice paint and interior, doing EVERYTHING myself.


I'm stoked, can't wait to get started.

I was thinking it looked a little newer than 49. I think I will stick with the Tremec 3550 for my Galaxie.

 

Snow tires, haven't seen any of those in 35 years.

 

I guess now that you sent a daughter off to college you'll have an extra room to store parts for the build!?

 

What a rust bucket! The whole package is junk. I'll take it off your hands and save you the trouble. When should I be there to pick it up? Oh, and nice score! Gonna need pics often of your progress. Have at it!

Motor and tranny sold.

I grabbed the driver's door. I thought it was solid, but it had a little rot.
