I just found an old mechanix illustrated mag with a mahogany sport custom. I laughed about the phone of tomorrow
The Fitzpatric, now part of the Joe Bortz Collection Kurtis Omohundro Comet, now owned by Geoff Hacker Life Magazine photos Built in 1938!
I don't know if the Tommy Lee Special would count as a sport custom, but its nice and kinda matches the description.
It look cool I don't know but it looks like it has a Kinda 60's Ferrari looking grille I don't know thats the vibe I'm Getting.
Hi Gang.. Attached are some pictures of a LaDawri Conquest sports car. There's a thin line between "Sport Custom" and "Sports Car". So far in my research, what seems to define the difference is production numbers. Typically Sport Customs were built as a one-off whereas if many were made - like the LaDawri Conquest - then these would be classified as Sports Cars. The Maverick - posted by Rikster earlier - would be a sports car since they built between 7 and 12 of these as well. Of course this is subjective - and just my thoughts at this time. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Geoff Hacker Tampa, Florida. www.forgottenfiberglass.com
Hi Gang... Attached is an article from Special Interest Autos (SIA) from 1977. It was written by my friend Ray Scroggins, who worked with a number of different folks to put together a "10,000 foot level" view of Sport Custom Cars from the 1940's and beyond. It's a great article and the first since the 1950's to address the classification of Sports Customs in any detail. For the past 5 years, I've been researching both the fiberglass sports cars of the 1950's as well as the Sport Custom cars from the 1930's and 1940's. Rikster has shared many photos I've found and I've been researching the families and people who built them as well. Hopefully, when we are finished with our book "Forgotten Fiberglass" we'll start on writing the full history of Sport Customs - something I'll be starting to share within the next year on a new website for Sport Customs too. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the article, and am happy to help with any questions, if anyone out there is interested. Happy Reading Gang...
