I am building a 62 Galaxie and I am trying to decide if I should run skirts or not. It is going to be dark blue with gloss black steelies, trim rings and spyder caps. It is lowered 2" and a lot of the trim is gone. I found this pic online of a similar trim level and the color is close.

I am going to run thin white walls on mine and I will probably have tinted windows

I like those types of skirts very much. I am trying to convince a friend of mine to photoshop it. She is much better at it than I am.

Thank god my wife doesn't visit the Hamb site! LOL On the car I would have to say no. Never cared for skirts on the 60's cars, except the caddys of course!

I just had a crack at your photo and added skirts. Err, no. No skirts... What about a cool looking set of wire wheels? I also had a crack at deleting the skirt off the other picture. Didn't work.

Generally...1935/'40s/through about 1954...yes...if you like 'em. Especially lowered customs.

Not so much with 1955 or later cars.

Still always a personal preference though.

That pic is awsome coolbreeze!! My type of lady! Now on the car id vote no skirt unless your going for the lowrider look. Then it might be alright.

A buddy of mine bought a real nice 62 Galaxy 500. On the way home from picking it up he had the skirts off at the first gas stop. He couldn't live with them any longer.:D

Skirts on those cars look like an after thought or like it's trying to be high end. It also reminds me of J.C. Whitney type accessories. Those flat tops look better w/out even lowered.

No Skirts. With the lip around the wheel opening it looks bad. With a flat quarter panel ok..

Change the above quote to "through about 1960" and I agree...anything after 1961- "No skirts"...that was the beginning of the era of musclecars.

And it's definitely a personal preference.

Skirts are for girls, not cars...

  28. This is exactly where I fall on the "skirt, no skirt" topic.
In fact, after 1961 skirts were removed from most pre-1961 vehicles as well, and for the same reason. It was the musclecar and drag race look from that point on. At least where I came from it was.
The only thing that Galaxy 406 sedan pictured needs is a pair of "Caslers" out back and header dumps behind the front wheel wells.(In my opinion that is)
I think skirts look good on the right car, and as a kid I always imagined them on my first car........until 1961.

i am in agreement with most everyone else, no skirts, unless you want to slam it on bags or hydros and some wires with aerial antennas.
