Thanks for posting! I never raced at Riverside, but spectated there ... in the old days you could stand right next to the track, no guard rails, etc...the Greek almost ran over my feet...the other great place was on the hill where the bridge ran over the finish line...just the sound at the top end between the hills was unforgettable!! Really sorry the track is long gone.

Great photos. Do you have any Road race Riverside photos of the same time period? The RIVERSIDE RACEWAY MUSEUM is looking for copies.

  26. Thanx Much for the pics!! Gives me moist eyes, wanted to bring my 60 Imp and 62 409 down from Oregon back then but the Draft Board had different ideas!! "GIMME THAT RACE CAR, TAKE THIS RIFLE, GONNA CUT YO HAIR OFF' Oh Well!! Only made it there twice in 62 as a spec. Recognize a lot of the cars tho. A real shame its gone, have been told its a GREAT BIG subdivision now, I hope the folks that live there hear a lot of "GHOST" drag race sounds!!!! I think it would be a GREAT PLACE FOR A MIDNITE CACKLE FEST!!! LOL!!

Gold willys with the candy red is Fred Texieria(sp?) Pretty sure the red Willys is Ron Nunes. If I take a good look, I can probably id some other cars there too.

Interesting blower casing on the Garlits car. Anyone know what it is? I am presuming it is not the usual 6-71 GMC.
