Art & Inspiration Porsche Museum Stuttgart (Germany)

I was at the Porsche Museum yesterday. Some pics I took:

A couple of other good ones too. Spielzeug und Auto Museum Tubingen.
it has a sixties theme. Also the Technik Museum in Speyer has a lot of good stuff. Even some old Buicks .

Go check out the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart aswell!

 

I was at the Mercedes Museum as well. And, at the end of the day, at the Weissenhof, a part of Stuttgart with some very cool architecture pieces, like Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, etc..

Beautiful cars! Sure like to see them in person. I have a 911 next to the 31 & 29 in the garage.

 

i don't think it's off topic at all, just a different direction. old school, carb'd, hand built hot rods. just from germany. wish you had a better pic of that abarth at the bottom of the stack there. those things are killer. kinda have an idea to make an "abarth" out of a 65-66 karmann ghia with some beetle parts molded on to it and a lot of one off work on the front with a built 16 out of a 40 hp...

Although somewhat O/T, they are European Sports Cars (especially EARLY ones) and have been offering inspiration to the US auto industry forever. But what makes this thread so appropriate is that various details from any of these cars can be seen in hot rods, vintage race cars, and even Kustoms. A lot of them were hand-made, so the construction ITSELF is inspirational to any of the numerous metalshapers around here.

Thanks for posting and great pictures! I love Porsches!! Would like to see more from your visit. I don't see any 904's in your set. The Mercedes museum would be amazing too, I bet...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

 

I was in Stuttgart for about 4 minutes on a train to Zurich. Unfortunatly we did not get to see anything but the train station. I hope to go back and when I do this will be on my list.

 

I was at the Porsche Museum in November of 1982 while on vacation doing the Eurail 15-day train pass. Great place to see Porsche history and all those fantastic 917's.

This little guy was just at the High Museum in Atlanta!

 

The right front fender on the prototype was damaged when the car was shipped to Calif a few years ago to Laguna Seca for the Porsche anniversary. You can see where they had to do some type of reshaping around the headlight. Great shots

We all know how expensive the regular old "run-of-the-mill" banjo steering wheel is...I can't begin to imagine the price on that Porsche model.

 

This car is a replica. The original is in private hands - much to Porsches irritation, it would appear!
