A few new shots of it. Today I removed the twisted rear bumper. I'm gonna pressure wash the shit out of it top to bottom tomorrow then I'll start on the engine removing the generator,Rad. & carb and see about fixing all 3. You ever notice how the front of a 1960 Ford truck looks like a Checker cab? lol
Man, that bumper really took a beating ... I had a 292 in my '60 F100. Awesome motor. The sound through dual Cherry bombs with long tailpipes was amazing. The '60 heads have tiny valves. The hot ticket is the '57-'59 heads. The '56 heads have valves smaller than '57-'59, but I believe they're still bigger than the '60. I happen to have a pair of '56 heads that I'm not doing anything with.
Keep the Y! You can get stock rebuild parts from a lot of places if you look. You can also get performance parts through John Mummert's Website. There is a Y block Forum Here. Really cool truck man. Keep posting your progress!
Your cousin has some nice old stuff in his yard....good luck on the truck. I think it is pretty cool to come with a V8...most were the inline 6.
so did the truck come from boaz? im from north alabama. it must have been really sweet when it was parked for it to still look like that after that many years sitting. looks like a nice truck to get running and lower then drive while u work on it. congrats!
My cousin Tony lives in Boaz out off the main highway where you see all them old 30's-40's cars. But my truck came from Albertville.and Yeah I was shocked it was in that good of shape after sitting behind my grandfathers barn for 16 years. It woulda been in the barn but it was falling apart so they moved it behind it in the woods.
So have you given any thought to what you want to with it beyond fixing those first items? Stocker, low & slow, Gasser type etc?
Keep the y block i have freinds who won alot of beer /races with built y blocks i also had a 312 interceptor that wood smoke the tires until you let off the pedal

Yanked the batt. tray and its wasted as you can see.though the sides are in good shape so maybe I can weld a piece of metal where the old middle part of the tray was? You can see where the tray was here and surprisingly it was rot free.
The tray should be just spot welded on to the sides. I had the same with my 59. I ground off the welds and wire wheeled the brackets. Then I took some measurements and headed to pick n pull. I found a good donor tray for $6. I had a buddy spot weld it to the brackets, repainted it then bought new hold down hardware at a auto parts store.
I just kept my battery tray side pieces that bolt to the firewall and bent up a new base plate and welded it to the firewall brackets. The new base fit current batteries that are out there. Enjoy! SPark

Your truck would be easy to set up "Early Gasser" style. There are a couple around the HAMB and they look great. Lemme know if you'd like to have it Photoshopped.

Whoooa thanks guys for the killer photochops. As for the 57 and the rest of the cars My cousins wife owns em and she's one of the damn weird ass "hoarders" sadly. :-(
