The was always an old jelly jar of powered laundry detergent next to the "mens' sink" in the house. works great cleaning hands of the nastiest grease.
Wet hands, pour on a handfull of detergent and start scrubbing without any more water, when you got everything off - rinse.
My Grandpa had a service station in the '20's and that's all he or my Dad ever used.

Starting fluid, or ether, will take pine tar off tools or hands really well, just do it in a well ventilated area.

A better choice of oil for your leather boots is a natural oil, like olive oil. Its better for the leather.

Salt does make a good abrasive for scrubbing. I cook with cast iron dutch ovens and the only cleaning they get - NO SOAP - is a good wipe down with some salt and a paper towel.

someone already said "panty hose" for an emergency fan belt...

How about a keychain for an emergency cotter pin.

A guy at the PRC reliability run used water in his mastercylinder and finished the last 20 miles of the run!

Baby oil removes the pomade out of you hair :)

Bounty paper towels for paint prep. These things a chemically clean, virtually lint free, I've used them for years. My Dad was a chemist at P&G when they were developing these - he said they were extremely high quality pulp. Also, Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner as upholstery and fabric cleaner. Leaves no residue, dries fast, use with a clean paper towel.

  16. Propane to prime an engine with fuel. Wd40 propellent is propane. Does not work as well but can be used to replace ether, less cylinder wash.
Bucket of sawdust as hand cleaner for oil and grease covrered hands or spilt oil and then burn it in the woodstove as firestarter.

I used to use bug n tar remover in the inside windows of cars that had heavy smokers as owners. IT would take the brown film right off....always got me extra tips at the detail shop as smokers would marvel that the could see out their windows :)
