Ok I wanna lower mine.I was gonna go the gasser route but that kinda look odd with the 57-60's imho. plus the front leafs are rusted and ones even busted. So how do I lower it? any help would be greatly appreciated.
Depends on how low you want it. Reverse eye springs will drop it about 2" You can get a dropped axle from Sid's anywhere from 2" to 4" I think. The rear flip the axle above the springs for about a 6" drop, you will need to do a c notch if you want any ride quality out of it. put a dropped axle in it! its cheap, you have the same suspension travel and can be done in a day. I did it and cost me less than $600 to drop the front and rear Did a reverse eye main leaf in the rear and took out the shortest leaf as well. I love it!!!!!! http://www.droppedaxles.com/FORD_AXLES.html#TXTOBJ7D81431412F231 Mono leafs break, front clips are a commitment and often require different wheels and cutting your frame, mustang II is sometimes a little lightweight for heavy trucks with big blocks.
Mid Fifties make 3" lowered springs. Or a dropped axle. Or IFS (you might search Jaguar clip). Or........ Larry T Mid Fifties springs are 53-56, I don't know if they'd work on 57's or not. Sorry bout that.
Oh and thanks so far for the help guys,I think I'll go the dropped axle route though because I don't wanna cut the frame off and I'm trying to keep it close to stock kinda.
Make sure to use the tie rod extentions that Sid has and he recomends a 7 degree wedge to tilt the axle back. I had to make some 3/8" spacers to extend the spring bolt so it would come through the wedge so the axle could locate again. For the steering arm on the spindle I had to heat it up and lower it (the same amount as the axle drop) to make it the same geometry as the stock setup (I dont have any bump steer). And if you want to put power steering go with the Toyota box. It bolts right in place where your ford box went and hooks up just like the original one. The only thing you need to do is cut the column off the ford box, secure it to the floor of the body and use a rag joint to join them together. For the rear when using the reverse eye main leafs I had to grind out the inside of spring holder (the front one with no shakle) to clear the leaf that was now ontop of the eye. The gusset in the mount hits the leaf just past the eye and could break the leaf. Make sure everything moves smothly and you will be fine! Its the best way to go you will love it!!!
Jag front end. Possible the crown vic also. As far as gasser look, that is what won the craftsmanship award at the Show Me F100 this year 57/60 F100.
cannot go wrong with the reverse eye mono leafs, just buy them, bolt them in and get it over with. super easy, quickest route. Sac Vintage.
