I hope no-one minds me starting this thread this week.

I thought this would be relevant considering this weeks loss.

This is a computer comp that I will paint on a metal panel over the next couple of weeks.

    We lost a great one....

Very cool art work. We have lost a very great custom man. The only thing I see in the work is that the car should be the "Grapevine".

"Sometimes the inspiration is not about what they did - It's how they went about it, bold, different, making their own groove - Thats the inspiration that gets ya to Stepout and do your thing."

I enjoyed what this quote said... so i'm reposting my artwork because i'm sure this car was inspired by Larry Watson (R.I.P.) in one way or another, especially because it has scallops and striping in the design:)

    So here it is again...

It's a 1959 Chevy El Camino. The artwork was done with Pelikan black ink on a 9 x 32 1/2 card stock applied with just a brush.
    thanks,

I'm into it. Whether we use my artwork, someone elses. I can create the digital file needed to do the screens. Just need to find someone to screen them.

I had seen Larry at a couple of shows but I did not have the guts to go up to him to shake his hand. I should have taken the opportunity when I had the chance. RIP Larry. Looks like this is going a different direction than the art show. (Photo removed)

Get it cleared with the family. Let them choose from various submitted designs and let's make it happen!

It will not happen for awhile if at all, lets stick to posting art that is Watson Inspired.

I designed a page for Larry to go in my next issue (coming soon). It will be the page you see as soon as you open the cover.

Nice Stroupedesign! I did this today as a tribute to the artistic genius of Larry Watson.

There's a video here on the HAMB of Larry describing how he painted a bloody eyeball in a spoon on the inside glove box of his first pinstriping client - which means he was probably something 17 years old at the time. He laughs when he says the guy's girlfriend opened the glove box and got sick just by looking at it. What's cool is that Larry in his seventies still cracked up over a drawing he did 50+ years prior. Staying young inside is what makes great artists great I think.

  19. Watson's creations inspire me in general. He's left such an indelible mark on the hobby,
how can his fingerprints not be on the work of most artists, designers and builders alike.

Repops of stuff some are probably tired of but only a few of mine owing thanks to the memory and influenced of Mr. Watson, I presume. R.I.P. Larry.

  25. Well to stay on target, the guy that painted my 65 (SPIRIT) was the guy that filled me in on who Watson was when I showed him the book grease machine, this is about the time (1979) he sprayed my chevy, heres some shots for about 1981

Larry Watson's passing is yet another big loss to our hobby and passion.
His influences will live on as long as anyone lays down cool panel painting or scallops.

Here's one I did that always made me think of his paint jobs.

    R.I.P. Larry.
