Yes, I cut-up a perfectly good model A frame and z-ed it to drop my 31 tudor to within 5" of the dirt. Rip me good or send your positive suport, I don't care either way, it's MY car and I thought I'd just share...

    fish plates are your friend.

  3. I just ask that you consider some fishplates on those joints, at least on the inside of the rails. B4 you put the plates on, drill about 4 holes for rosette welds and then weld around the plates to the rails, and then fill in the holes. Welcome to the HAMB.

I agree that it should be fish plated... Man that z in the front is huge...

That Z is going to look goofy in front of the cowl! Way too much. A large Z like that isn't necessary if you set up the suspension correctly!

Wait till you try and get your motor down below the dash and fitting in the frame rails.... unless it's a inline 6 I see major problems!!

I think that Z is pretty crazy. There is no way I'd get away with that around here, way too many pot holes. The road to the south of me turns into a mudbog in the spring.

I'm afraid we don't want to see the end product but those jack stands are cooler than hell.
But with that deep a Z you will be able to use the driveshaft tunnel as an arm rest if you like having your arm up that high.

Is that one of those kink free hoses?

  16. That huge z will be perfect with your 7.25 inch chop.....

are you going for the tires taller than the roof look?

    Other than the hose.....

That front Z is pure insanity. Unless you are running 44" super swampers on the front, your car will not be able to move.

Your radiator is either going to be a foot taller than the cowl, or look like this:

Either way you look at it, it's not good.

And everyone is right, fishplates are your friend.

I recommend Thompsons water seal on that deck.

  19. Yeah, I was gonna' jump on the 'how much ground clearance are you REALLY gonna' end up with, and WTF are you gonna' do about the engine and radiator being mounted a foot higher than the body?" bandwagon.

I think some fishplates that have a cool shape to 'em with a big hole in the middle could look really cool if it fits in with the overall aesthetic you have in mind. On the right kind of car, I think it might be better to rock 'em proudly than try to hide 'em.

Looking forward to some mockup pics to see what you come up with.

  20. can we keep this on topic?.....we were discussing what type of sealer to use on the drive way....

The front Z is huge, but might work with a stock spring and axle, eh? As for engine... hope you are using an inline. I see motor mounts and exhaust being a big problem otherwise. BIG drag link, too, eh? Gary

are you going to run a dropped axle or a stock one...? I assume that you are going to channel the body....? I look forward to seeing the body and and your drive train. Ignore all the bullshit that alot of these guys put out... They know more than everyone else does......

Hold back on installing the fishplates until you have worked it out totally as you may find some stuff will need to be undone.

Did you try a full mockup before committing to such a radical Z setup???

Wow Chuckles you have really done your homework. Thanks a diddley.

  26. Man, I have a 4" Z and a 3 3/4" channel and I am 5" from the ground. My axle only has a 2" drop. I dont see how that will work as the engine is going to be way high and if you can fit it down lower, the frame will be right in the way of the exhaust. Also I am using a stock 1940 spring which has like a 10" arc to it. You will have to use a spring about 20" to make it not leave grooves in the pavement. I think you need to cut that front Z to about 6" and use a 4" dropped axel which will still be HUGE!!!!

yup nice jack stands , thats some radical front kick , its so steep i thought it was the rear of a pick up frame at first glance lol , that car will need a roller oil pan so the engine can roll smoothly along the highway the front cross member should scrape any debris or speed bumps out of its way

Never seen one dropped in the front like that. Is it going to work?

I dropped mine 4 inches, and it took some doing to get the engine and tranny height worked out, also the fan clearance on the front crossmember. I'd like to see this one mocked up with a drivetrain etc.
