I stand corrected... you're right, Parnelli never drove for his own team.

The number #60 car (the wedge) that Joe Leonard drove was originally owned by Granatelli, however, the car was transferred to Vel's ownership at Indy, when Vel's car (the Mongoose) was unable to qualify and he was able to guarantee Joe Leonard would be in the seat. Leonard crashed it during practice, but eventually put it on the Pole. Granatelli remained both the sponsor and entrant. This all took place before the existence of Vel's Parnelli Jones Racing, which was formed in late 1968 for the 1969 season.

But again, You're right about the # 20 turbine car that Pollard drove.

Thanks Rootie! Yes, that is the car powered by a Cadillac. This car had a lot of history, I hope I can find it all. Thanks again.

I'm new to this sprint car board - and this is my first reply. Been trying to catch up reading some of the posts when I seen the posts on Toby on pages 481-483, regarding the #7 sprint and his Hershey cars. I know I'm late to the party on this one - and maybe it was answered somewherelse, but here goes.

Toby's Hershey car was an old Indy roadster - not sure who's but remember hearing Mario drove it at one time. Toby rebuilt it and it was a #1 not #7. I built a model of it and gave it to him at his 8th ave speed shop. He also a year later built his own version of a sidewider, which he raced a few times - I think at Selinsgrove and Port when he wasn't racing the mods at Reading.

I may be off a year or two here - but after he raced URC #2 & USAC #17 cars for Russ Ruppert from '69 to '71, he had his own #7 USAC sprinters during mid 70's. One car was one of Ozzie's inboard coil-over cars.

Sadly I helped fabricate & build his last USAC sprinter in '78.

Two of my favorites from the MVVR meet at Oskaloosa Iowa on 6/24/10. The Ranger powered car got on its head the next night at Knoxville. I hope the driver was ok after his visit to the hospital.
There were 52 cars at Oskloosa & many more at Knoxville. The MVVR is a first class outfit and we'll definitely go back again.

Its a real shame that somebody forgot to "fabricate" gussets for that cars roll cage. Toby might still be here today.

The roadster Toby had was the Edgar Elder built, former Stearly Motor Freight car that was, I believe, Marios first Indy car ride at Trenton. If memory serves me right he wrecked the car that day. The car has been restored and is owned by Bruce Revennaugh from Texas.

Mario finished 11th at Trenton 64. He said he probably would have done better but it was still set up for a much bigger driver and he was having a hard time driving it.

    Hey Gang...

I am looking for a set of velocity stacks for an older Hilborn fuel injector. Looking for 1 13/16 ID about 12 inches long. The set that I have for my Trevis car are a bit short. If anyone has a set and needs 4th of July money, let me know! 717-433-2431.

    Thanks

    Joe

It's hard to believe that red roadster was this - Toby's Hershey #1 - Must of been alot of work.

  11. Joe. If you dont find some used stacks, give Hilborn a call at 949-360-0909 They still stock most stacks for the older units. Good luck. Lonnie

Wayne, IN. and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. Actually, There were 5 of us who drove from the Winchester Speedway to downtown Winchester, with a police escort. 4 of the 5 cars were mac miller built specials equipped with self starters, transmissions and electric cooling fans.

The #98 "Parnelli Jones" roadster and the white "Miller" with the red wheels will be "on track" at the Milwaukee Mile on July 9 and 10, running the 16th annual "Millers at Milwaukee" vintage meet. This is the "don't miss" meet of the year, with 10 hours of track time.
If you can get there, be there! Stop by and say HI!

Looks like it could be a fun and relatively easy project. Here's some of those Ray Kuns drawings:
