You ever pop a hood and scratch your head?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Ratmotor, Jun 30, 2010.

  1. I bought an off topic car today to part out and didn't pay too much money or attention. Got the 74 AMX home and popped the hood. There sits a 460 Ford big block never completely installed! Nice score was the brand new Edlebrock Performer RPM on it as well as chrome valve covers. The cost of the car was only $300.00. When I saw what it was I thought WTF!!! You ever pop a hood and wonder what the hell was someone thinking?

Cruisin' one of the U-pull it's one day, I popped the hood of an early eighties dodge truck and low and behold - a nailhead!!! Talk about what was one thinking? Wish I would have grabbed it now...

  5. Nice. But does it work? Maybe someone stuck it in there to get rid of it. Hmmm.

I once sold a 68 Chevy pickup that had a tired 6 in it.
The guy I sold it to put in a 390 FE Ford because he had it.

63 425/409 under the hood of a rusty long bed 65 Chev pickup laying in the weeds.
Dual quad 401 with all the stage 3 parts intact in a 65 Buick 4 door and same thing again in a 65 full-sized wagon. The 4 door was in a wrecking yard and the wagon was along side the road for sale-my buddy bought it for $600.

Is this a trick question??? I am not the best mechanic in the world -- by far. I scratch my head a lot when I open the hoods of my cars!!!

I was just gunna say.....I usually pop one and then wear the bastard as a party hat.

Okay I know, once I bought a 65 Ford pickup short box with a Poncho engine stuffed in it. It ran like a raped ape so I had no complaints.

Back many years ago, when my oldest daughter turned 16, I built a Plymouth Duster for her with a 4 cylider engine out of a VW Rabbit. The trans adaptor had to be about 10 inches long to make it work because it was originally a FWD engine.

When you poped the hood, it looked... Ummm, well.... An engine bay that could hold a HEMI, and the VW engine was about the size of a shoebox. :D

Yes, it was a little down on power, but it got 30 MPG and it went over 120,000 miles without any major mechanical issues.

The look on peoples faces when they saw it was priceless!

A buddy bought a beat up old '65 Chevy pickup for $400 that had a Corvette 327 and four speed in it, complete with the T-trigger handle shifter... it also ran like a raped ape.

I've popped my head on the hood and rubbed it, usually accompanied by very creative language and a strange hopping dance, does that count?

Many moons ago a couple of high school buddies and I were messing around in a small salvage yard on the south side of Muskogee, Ok. We opened the hood of an old school bus and there sets a 409 w/dual quads. Can't imagine what the school board was thinking when they ok'ed the purchase of such a beast.

I never bought a car that I did not look under the hood first. Nice surprise though.

A Boy Scout troop was stashing a bus on my Dads property..several years later my Dad says come haul it off, as a favor to him I did thinking I would just haul it over the scales. I did sell it for scrap but only after taking out a later model 454 they had put innit....
