Just back for dinner. Faigrounds seemed somewhat empty, weather the hottest I have seen at a GG Rhinebeck. Not alot of venders either. Heading over to the Frozen Rainbow in Kingston tonight for their Cruise Nite.
What a day, so many cool cars!!, it took a while but I did find a bunch of HAMBers, and at least got to introduce myself. Got a bit rainy on they way out, but we pulled out the plastic, and kept on going. (perhaps a top will help.... ). Great show !!! - DTs
Beautiful weekend here in Rhinebeck. Very hot too. Bought another car Saturday morning , I'll post some pictures later. Now I really do have too many projects!
Last report on GG Rhinebeck 2010 (from me that is) Weather great, price of admission same as yesterday and friday only thing is there was only 2-3 hundred cars on the grounds. My big "O" would not start this morning so I drove my suburban there and my brother picked me up at the gate with his Willys. I feel sorry for the people that paid $18.00 to walk through the gate and saw maybe 200 cars if that. I don't know whats happening in the sport but the guys who trailer their cars actually complained that it rained all the way to Indy last week. And they gave out the awards 30 mins. earlier than planned to beat the rain. Some of the cars (Million dollar) Boyd, Foose etc. cars had no plates and one no top. Yeah that wasn't trailered. My hat is off to all you hambers who drive. Thank You. Pat
Some of you probably spotted this car too, in the car corral Saturday morning. I was searching for an entry level rod for an old high-school era chum, shot some photos of this and sent them thru my iPhone to him. I gave him a good description of it, talked for a looooong time with the owner, built the car's value to the stars for both parties benefit. After 2 hours my friend calls me back and tells me he wants a clutch. The car is a great value for an entry level player I remind him. For my first rod I reminded him that I wanted a high dollar Willys gasser but with my budget it wound up being a blown motor low buck, condemned to death '40 Pontiac. After a little more talk I phoned my wife. "Go to the bank and draw me out some cash please". "We're buying another car dear." "This thing needs an adoption quickly!!" It's too good a value to pass up, we're buying this for ourselves. Good thing my wife is a partner to this incurable hot rod disease
Waaaay too many trailered cars...what happened to actually drivin your hot rod to the show?????...I don't know how they find room enough for all the trailers in Kingston! Driving my car from MA out by the Cape and draggin my Scotty behind me through the hills of CT and NY is always one of the best parts of the Rhinebeck show for me and my wife. Then this year a lot of people start splitting at 3 o'clock and the carpet starts gettin rolled...what was up with that???
its never been a real good party show, but thats just lame!! remeber how hard we tried to stir it up that year? even though we failed we had a good time trying..
Spring Rhinebeck the first weekend of May is way better. I live in Kingston and I rarely go to Goodguy$. We are having a traditional hotrod party and show on July 10th in Saugerties on kings highway by thruway exit 20. Bands Burlesque fun stuff and cheap.
