you are correct, after he punched the louvers in the hood he resprayed the car right over the original paint, stripes and all.

I wont say much about how i found it since its not an exciting tale, but I will say it was right under everyone's noses but no one cared to inquire about it. it was a short online classified add with no real detail, so i emailed him to get some pictures. i talked to him on the phone the next day and rest is history. i did however save the car from going over seas, he had been in negotiations with someone the day before and after talking to him we both agreed the car needed to stay in the states.

its from Burton Michigan and there is striping under the trunk latch that reads "Paint By Jack" he must have been pretty well known since it is some of the best striping i have ever seen from that era.

any help would be much obliged.

What a great car! Don't worry about how that new license plate looks...it says "I'm back!" to me and that means driven daily and having fun.

Makes me want to go poking around in some barns around here. Although when I lived in Montana, I found an area which had a lot of cars behind a small store. On the sign attached to the fence it read, " If you're caught here at night, you'll be found here in the morning." Didn't cross that fence....

Wow! What an amazing find! Looks to have been quite unique in concept with a hybrid sports car/hot rod feel and done to a very high standard back then. Seems to me you've got the perfect plan for it.

Picking up on the photo in the magazine of the "experimental Chrysler turbine" wheels, a Google search turns up this photo of the Chrysler C-200 convertible with very similar (virtually identical except for the pseudo-knock off) wheel. Wonder what connection Mr. Calken must've had to get those beauties?

old vinyl so hard it would shatter by pressing your thumb into it will soften right up with spray on paint remover, sometimes i spary it on a rag and then whipe the vinly and sometimes i just spary it right on the vinyl and wipe it off with a rag, the idea is to allow it to soak in, i discovered this on an old moterbike seat while trying to remove the factory printing, didnt remove the letters but made to seat soft as new, so i tried it on a couple more old bike seats that had been sitting outside for years, wow they were soft as warm butter, everything i have tried this on has remained soft and has never hurt the vinyl or removed any dye, dont ask me why it works i have no idea, results may vary and i accept no responsibility.
