35,000+ hours, 14 type ratings, 737,747,757,767,777, DC-9, Lr jet, Lr 40, IA jet, DA10, etc... Helicopter, helicopter instrument, ex-Navy but I like Hot Rods better!

  3. I've been to 25 of them and a couple of times with my "Ultralite" and a couple of times riding in a P-51... still the "Best Show" around.

I'll bet that ride behind the Merlin was a kick in the ass! At the moment I can't think of a more enviable experience.

I probably have spoken with you on the radio. I got to NCO from CHS in '72 as an ATC for the FAA. The Navy pulled out in '73-'74 and I went to BOS in '75. Retired in '81 (PATCO).

In excess of 1100 hours of combat time flying the UH-1 in Vietnam. Survior of mid-air collision. Now grounded due to RVN wounds. Fixed and rotary wing qualified with all the bells and whistles.

I own and operate two, advanced flight training companies. This is why I can't afford to fly for myself! My family owned a cropdusting business for 25+ years and Dad flew medevacs in Vietnam.

Been working with UAV (or UAS depending who you are talking to) for the past 6+ years. Cool stuff, but I am no pilot.

Yup, CFI, CFII, MEI. I'm on furlough currently. I'm assuming you passed your checkride by now? I wish you many cool adventures. By the way, Bonneville is also a legal backcountry airstrip! (one for the bucket list)

Dang, after all this bench flyin I've got the itch to go up..I guess I could google for a Piper Cub to rent..I used to love flyin tree-tops in South Texas, cruising the Medina River you would see big catfish and alligators just swimmin along. My Dad and I still have a 41 Taylorcraft L2 basket case..Trouble is, overhauling one of those Continental flat fours is about $7500 these days...

Do anything special for Father's day?

I woke up Father's Day morning and was thinking of things to do with my boys. While getting ready this morning, I thought about what would really be fun. I decided to take my boys flying, as they have never been up in a plane and it would be fun to share with them what my Grandpa shared with me. I called a few places and found an instructor to go up today. I handed my iPhone to Brandon to take pictures , he deleted the ones of our house for some reason, oh well...

Since this thread has been bumped towards the top I will say that I've had enough. Been a pilot 34 years for a paycheck and will continue to fly rag and tube taildraggers in retirement. Just over 21,000 hours and retiring as a 747 capt. Now I don't have the excuse of not enough time to finish my truck but I will need to learn how to live on a fixed income.
