This was just posted over on the TF forum and should settle the F/E vs. R/E debate once and for all. I believe this is the first time I've seen the Sumar streamliner, in full body trim, in action. WOW!

    Rootie.
Youtube is great!!! Talking about tires for our vintage cars, here is something I have found inthe last few months. Back in Texas I saw the tires on the big bore Mustangs and Corvettes. They are Goodyear Blue Streak Specials 600-15 and 700-15. Back out here in Ca. I was with my brother at Willow Springs helping him with his F-V. Long story short I have ended up with 4 tires. The photos show the tires on the car and two photos of before and after cleaning them up and repaint the GOODYEAR and a blue streak. Last photo is the tread on tires. Ok, here is the kicker, these are takeoffs and they were FREE I got them from one of the teams. The tire guy at Willow Springs was selling them for $30, Very, VERY fair to say the least. This is not perfect but they look period correct, new, safe and will last me forever

I knew Don was in the process of getting his Roadster Midget back. Here is the latest from Don, w/ images.
The roadster has arrived, sitting at my shop door, waiting to be unloaded. We picked it up in Long Beach Cal., took it to my son's home, and left most of the crate behind. A long trip, 800 miles each way, all happy miles on the way home.

Saw that on the T/F also, and they did a outstanding job on it, hope they do some laps with it on vintage day. As near as I can tell the original is still owned by the Root family and lives in a museum in Fla. somewhere.

I saw the Sumar recreation at the Indy World of Wheels show after visiting Denny's shop the day before. Unbelievable level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Yes, The 'original' Sumar steamline Indy car is in the Root's Wing of the Daytona Beach Museum of Arts and Sciences, along with the Root's family train cars, their huge Coca Cola collection, hugh Teddy Bear collection, etc., etc. If you have the $ to donate a wing to a museum, you can have a place to put all of your 'stuff'.

As far as I know, he was the last man to win a USAC sprint race without a cage..........and I think he had the only car in the race without one.

Yup. It was the Horn-Schindler Memorial at Williams Grove in 1970.

I finally found a few more Sprint Car photos to upload. These were taken at Eldora the same day as the one of Al Smith that I uploaded several weeks ago.

I do not know the date, but it would probably have been a USAC race in 1965 or 1966 - my best guess.

I have no records of who drove which car, so I'm hoping someone out there can enlighten us.

    Enjoy...

I'd like to know who is in the Mataka sprint car in ths picture.

Ed Mataka told me that this car has been restored and is in a collection or museum somewhere, but this old foggy brain doesn't remember where.

    Vegas Oldtimer and Ken Schou,

I believe that these photos are from Eldora, Apr 17, 1966. If so it's Rollie Beale in Ken Lay's No. 8, Tom York in the Null brothers No. 27 and Chuck Rodee in the Mataka No. 3n1. However I have no record of the Besecker car there that day. Chuck Arnold drove it there on July 3, but the Null, Matak and Lay cars weren't at that race.

Hey Guys, I found this in one of two 57 caddys were restoring for a customer. This was in one thats to be a parts car and looks to be a early 1/4 midget frame and was wondering if any of you guys might know of a site here or elsewhere to research this thing and get some ideas......Thanks Rich
