Got a 4 cly. distributor dose not fire number 3, fires 1 4 2 skips 3 not the wire, not the cap ???? help !!!
Are you saying that no spark comes out of the #3 wire, or that cylinder #3 is dead? If strong, blue spark jumps out of #3 wire, then plug, piston, valve train.
The egine is not the problem its the distributor dose not fire second hole ! cam in dist. good rotor good cap good wires good. what the hell is it ??
im assuming its a points type dist. if it is, get it to Cyl#3 is and see if the points are opening. if they are and the coil if firing then check resistance at the plug wire. (end to end) and see what the resistance is. then move the wire and see if it changes or reads Open lead (OL) on a DVOM. if the wire is fine and you swapped plugs from a known good cylinder then i would say you have a mechanical problem. dead cylinder, flattened cam lobe if the valves are not opening or a stuck open valve.
another thing did you swap any parts from a known good cyl to the bad one? like plugs and wires and see if it moved to another cyl? another idea is you might have a tooth or two missing from the dist gear or on the cam gear and its throwing things off. but i would think that would mess your timing up so bad that it wouldn't run.
plus alittle more info like what kinda 4 cyl. what car was it in or is it in? might help me help you figure this thing out
