Can I ask a question without getting flamed?

What is the deal with Tikis and Hot Rods? What is the connection?

    Please no flamage, thanks.

The connection is that I like both!

    Which means I don't have a good answer. ;)

Wow! Some really great work here this week:

    KCSledz: love the vector work
57 Corvette Bob: as usual, awesome. Definitely wish I had some of those backgrounds. Love the fox diner
April May: great shots and PP. Love the last image of that orange vehicle
ShortBus: nice shots but would love to have seen a bit more creativity
Cruisin: love the close-up shots of the motors
HotRodGirl: great action shot. Tell that guy to clean his windshield ;)
Dan Greenberg; beautiful shots. Love the Bonniville.

Here's my entry for the week. Saw this one at a show last Saturday. Beautiful Rod.

I think this is the first time I've actually posted in the show. I've been slacking on leatherwork recently but I've been having fun painting these little creepies.

The connection is that after World War II the guys coming home from the Pacific Theatre (and were back to building rods) had seen the Pacific islander's art and some incorporated that into their developing post-war car culture.

Not to mention that it coincided with Thor Heyerdahl's Kon Tiki expedition of 1950. The United States was already interested in hot rods and tiki themed bars and restaurants began popping up all over the country. I think that it is something that was part of the popular culture of that era that has transcended its niche and become part of our hot rod/custom culture today.
