1956 Ford platinum gray (car and truck). My 56 Mainline is the same color. It really looks clean in person with no metalic in it.

I would highly recommend you take a trip to some new car dealerships and check out cars from both Asia and Europe. There are several really nice new deep rich colors to choose from that are slightly unique to most American cars.

I wanted gray on my car, but not so gray. It has a greenish tint. Goes good with silver.

Here are some pix I have. Taken at Paul Bunyan Vintage Car Show, Bemidji, MN 2009. Don't remember owner's name or details. So I apologize to owner of this spectacular ride. I took pix b/c I'm also looking at colors for my 54 and dug this color and car.

Sorry, I wish I did. At time photos looked great. Then looking at later, I see shadows and flashes.

As you see from the responses, not a common color, but something I've been looking at too, for my '37 Plymouth. My favorite so far is something I came across called PPG Mystic Emerald, but I don't have a picture of it.

I have always thought non-mettalic colors rule. When trying to match metallic paints they are rough to match. Solids also give a super clean look that is easier to maintain and repair. I really like the Dove greys used by Ford and Chrysler that are non metallic. If I ever complete my Plymouth/Dodge Kingsway Suburban wagon it will be the finish color. So there is my 2-cents. Good luck with that cool Merc. ~Sololobo~

I used a GMC truck color, storm gray, about a 2000 vintage I believe. It's done in a
Sikkens base coat, clear coat.......and is about 8 years old!

Don't think I've ever seen a grey car with flames. Mine needs to be painted, but before stripping it, I'd experiment to see if flames was the way to go. Drew them off with a magic marker, slapped down the masking tape and zapped some on with rattle cans just to see. Now I'm going to have to take the car down for a little time to do the job right, but hate to miss cruising. When I relate my plans, a number of people said to enjoy it for awhile the way it is as it looks like something done way back when and is a survivor. So now I'm considering a darker gray instead of the black.
