I think the sub-text of the advert is "Order out of chaos".

First scene; oil dripping from old car = Unreliable and messy, dirty oil, bad for the envirnoment.

Second scene; many old modified cars (jalopies) probably fun but unsafe and maybe even dangerous, hoons are driving around aimlessly and chaotically. Enter the new beaut Audi. = Your new Audi drives effortlessly though the chaos, in a calm masterful manner you can safely drive your new Audi among all the other dangerous lunatics on the road, and their unsafe old jalopies.

Third scene; Having 'seen off' the other incompentant road users and their dangerous cars you and your new Audi can take a well deserved rest. However, one mean disgruntled lunatic driving a mean, nasty 'piece of work' has other ideas. He lines up your new Audi and means you harm, he floors it and with tyres smoking he is heading straight at you. = Even those who mean you harm cannot hurt you, with you in control of your new Audi, you effortlessly, with style and aplomb deal with the situation and win the day, not even the badest of the bad can come close to you and your Audi.

Final scene; the other cars have gone leaving the Audi centre stage = You and your new Audi are 'the centre of the universe', nothing comes close to you. After all your trials and tribulations you and your Audi stand alone, together you have bought order out of chaos, and here your new Audi stands, triumphant!

I wonder what the viewer response would have been if the others cars had been left on stage for the final scene. Reminds me of the old actors adage, 'never work with animals or children, they'll steal the show".;)

Don't tell the Audi exec's, but the Art Director, the Film Director and the Cameraman absolutely adored the pink coupe and 'unloved', they stole the show.

I'd like to be a 'fly on the wall' in a few homes when that ad. has been shown a few times. Wifey cuddles up to hubby on the sofa. "honey, instead of trading on a new car next year you could buy a Hot Rod."
Hubby thinks 'Oh yeah, the chicks all love a bad boy, in a bad-assed car'.

Some time later Audi exec's are worried, "our new car sales are falling, and all the industry reports are saying sales of Hot Rods are thru the roof." Somebody suggests; "Maybe we should run that ad. again."

Yep it was my pick up that got pranged by one of the 'precision' drivers whilst this commercial was being filmed.
Managed to clip the rear of another car which bent the wishbone, snapped the spring perch, trashed a wheel and chipped the paint off a few things.
Not as bad as it could have been I suppose but they agreed to the repairs with no fuss. I made a bit of money so it's all good.
The 'unloved' A coupe/pick up also had a simlilar knock which resulted in a bent tie bar, suicide mount, axle etc. Both our cars had quick fixes made on set so they could carry on being used.
It was interesting to watch it being filmed, if a little boring at times. It's amazing that it took 3 days just to get that short bit of film.

X2.. Once I traded around and wound up with an Audi 5000, nice car for a while... Then things started going bad quick. Final straw was the trans going out in the summer, leaving me to walk four miles back home, and it started raining halfway.

I went back, cleaned it out, beat it with a ball bat, rolled it into the ditch and never looked back. Fuck that car and screw Audi... I would have T-boned that R8 before he had the chance to signal.

Cool commercial though...

5. Fuck watching from the sidelines. These no way i would be letting someone else have that much fun!

One of the better commercials of modern times. It's definitely a nice change from the usual car commercials. The Audi is nice, I wouldn't kick it out of my garage. My brother-in-law wants one, but my sister says she's getting her Nomad first. Go sister!

Advert is sure nice, but hell i agree on comparing apples w/ apples.
Audis are kinda Ok cars, my gf had a 99 wagon w/ a 3.5 liter turbocharged mill.
That thing was quick! enjoied while it lasted, when turbo went AWOL would have costed
about 2000 bones to repair! Traded it w/ a POS Renault :(
Could never afford to own a new car even if i wanted to, insurance for starters, plus you cant repair
shit w/out a pc and enuff klowledge to use it! not for me!

Love the fenderless Anglia. The European model A! Only goofier!:D

9. All cool cars in their own way, but the music with the hot rods makes me think FUN, the serene music accompanying the Audi makes me think of funeral homes.

Guess they want music the demographic can relate to.

Maybe now all the trendy junk rodders will think Audis are the next hot fad, and move on- leaving what's left of the vintage tin alone. :D

‘Beauty and the Beasts’ is visually spectacular – it features 28 extraordinarily beastlike and clumsy cars, which contrast with the elegance and beauty of the R8 Spyder. The film, shot in London’s ExCel centre, uses the UK’s most skilled high-precision drivers and was created almost entirely from camera with very little CGI.

The film ends with the line “Mirror, Signal, Outmanoeuvre.”, which is a reference to the Spyder’s Audi Space Frame and magnetic dampers that give it the agility and poise to outmanoeuvre the ‘beast’ cars.'

Ahh, the “ugly American” theme always plays well overseas, doesn’t it?

I’ll bet this commercial inspires more young people into oldies than it does mid-life-crisis types to buy ugly Audis.

I guess this commericial is trying to say Audis are superior while old American Hot Rods are just inferior... Thats about all I got out of it.. They hire "professional stunt drivers" that still cant drive. Im not too impressed.

I enjoyed that...

I even like the Audi... I've been impressed with what Audi is coming out with. Would I buy one... probably not (even if I could afford one)

I seen one of these on the road in LA this past weekend with tinted windows and black wheels and I'm not going to lie.. I liked it.

fuck, I'll take one of each....those new Audis are cooler than alot of other new shit coming out....I'd rather have the coupe though....and I still would drive my hotrods, it doesn't have to be one or the other, but it doesnt matter cause I can't afford one....

there's a bitchin Audi showroom in Tokyo, Keith Weesner and I were tripping out there, all glass with a glass elevator thats suspended above the sidewalk and an R8 coupe cut in half so you can see how it's built....pretty neat, even if you hate imports...

To be honest, that Audi doesnt do a thing for me.

But I bet it has good suspension and a good engine, so it should be a good donor for a Hot Rod.
( bring one over, I'd be happy to cut one up...:D)
*

And the commercial isnt very different from the UnPimp commercials we had for VW a while back.

They are just making fun of a different type of Modified Vehicle...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuC6jeKjTdg

Edit.
* Totally not Traditional, but this is what I'd do with it...
Build a hand built Aluminum body for it, based on a nice Bertone or PininFarina design from the mid '60s.
Or put the entire chassis & driveline under a type3 Ghia.

Unloved belongs to a buddy of mine and was built by Pixie on here, It hails from the same town as Dualatron & Perverse and the owner is a true gear head who has several model A's in various stages of build. Seems like "unloved" has captured a few peoples imagination and has also been on kiddies TV here .She rides nice and is fun to cruise in, here's a recent pic at a local gathering
