I pushed my clutch in fri am just out of hotel and foot hit mech water guage into fuse box a few sparks and my cruddy holley aluminum valve covers leaked all the way to oklahoma but I wasnt welding my frame like this guy at 2 am in hotel parking lot. What did you break?
I heard a dude at the show on saturday got in his car and the accelerator stuck when he put it in drive and it plowed into another car head on about 15 ft away. Both radiators were destroyed etc. That would be awful. At least no one was in front of the dude.
yeah guy at the hotel showed the pics, story was someone started a 32 or something with a blower in gear and the car jumped. both were fairly light on the damage as busy as it was luckily no one was in the way
Too many people building cars without giving any thought to safety,,,if not their own think about the people around them,,,a netural safety switch is pretty easy to install.. HRP
well there was a 69 Camaro that burped the throttle in front of us on Congress....fuel line came off and he then developed a nasty electrical fire that was soon put out. Also one guy broke a driveshaft in front of us doing a burnout.
The guy was driving a blown 34, he started the car while standing outside the car (I assume to rev the motor), YES it was in gear and jumped across the row directly into a period perfect 32 roadster with a flathead w Edmunds heads, the man in the duece roadster was pretty nice about it, i myself would have went apeshit! The guy in the blown 34 took the brunt, his grill, radiator shell, radiator mount was toast, the duece lost a headlight and mount along with a duece grill insert, and the guy in the '34 actually said "Yes I have a neutral saftey switch BUT IT DOESNT WORK!!!! NO COMMENT! This is EXACTLY why we dont allow cars to be fired up at our car shows after they enter the show grounds, if that duece wasnt there it would have plowed thru the VENDORS AREA and could have killed someone!
The Deuce is owned by Andy Rafferty, HAMB member from Kerrville, a retired engineer. It was built totally at home by Andy before anybody thought of the word "traditional" and it is powered by a 241 Dodge Hemi. Andy has put well over 100,000 miles on that car and other than maintainence has never had a serious problem to my knowledge until this accident. It had never had a paint touch up before now either. While the Deuce doesn't show the damage, the '34 not street legal blown coupe does. The '34 is owned by Joe De LaRoca of San Antonio. Andy was able to drive home the 100+ miles on Sunday which continues to be a testament to that car's original build. Without question, considering the number of people, including children who were present at the Roundup on Saturday, it is a great blessing that no one was in the path of the '34 as it barreled across the driving and walking lane and smacked the Deuce back into the grass about 15 feet.
My buddy Jeff had the hood of his Buick blow off on I-35 yesterday heading back to Dallas. Good thing I was close behind and we were able to put it in a buddy's truck. Crazy thing is that it's barely damaged... he was doing 100MPH when it came off hc
Was the girl that crashed in the scooter races hurt bad?? I hung around for about 10 mins. and she never moved. Hope she is OK...
My roadster blew a stupid freeze plug on Congress Friday night while pulling into the liquor store. I guess drinking is bad for you. Brand new rebuild and its the second one. I hate my engine guy now. Had to be the one behind the motor mount which was behind the steering box. We got it fixed though and I drove it the rest of the weekend. (thanks Dusty) But I did Hot Rod pout as my wife called it..................
And ... just for the record ... Andy Rafferty's 32 roadster suffered more damage than just the broken headlight stanchion and grille insert. There was a gennie `32 radiator in his little roadster that's now spewing coolant everywhere. The fact that he got it home is more a testament to his skill than the lack of damage. Don't minimize what could (and is!!) a very serious incident with serious consequences for the victim.
Some young kid got all excited in his lifted Z71 and plowed into the back of a model A sedan. The bottom of the front bumper caved in the top rear of the sedan. If the owner of the sedan is reading this... I don't know how you didn't kick that kids ass. He was driving like crap on South Congress all night! It did look like you were about to pummel him though! That happened on Saturday at about 7:30. My Willys pickup had a wobble in the front end going TO the roundup and during the garage crawl. After putting a bunch of miles on it this weekend, I had to putt-putt back home really slow on the toll road. Have to special order two new tie rod ends....
The camaro spit out a head gasket. Didnt get to far on Friday. Didnt have enough time for the 377 intall. Oh -well!
LOL, my tranny gave up not even 2 hours into the drive Wed. morning... I turned around and limped it almost all the way home... made it within a couple miles and she gave up completely.
I made it home.... but my buddy Hemi-Dude wasn't too fortunate. He broke a 392 Hemi in Greenville, Tx. We had it towed to New Boston, Tx. We had one of our buddies drive down with a truck and trailer to retrieve the 33 this AM....
Wow, I saw both of those cars on Saturday and didn't realize either was involved in that wreck. Gonna have to go check out my coverage and see if there was a pass. headlight on that '32! And figured the '34 had some kinda rear mounted radiator, haha. I had heard the blown car was a Willys. In our group we had... 3 non-charging issues, 1 overheating, one bad starter, one power steering leak, one major exhaust leak. My car was fine on the trip but broke an exhaust hangar right as I was leaving my house Friday morning. Had a blowout on one of our guys trailers and someone (me, oops!) forgot to bring the spare. All in all I'd say we made it through pretty well!
Careful in jumping to conclusions. This happened to me once. My HenryJ was new - only a few hundred miles. I was at Back to the 50s. I started the car and the 429 had it heading straight for the next row of cars. I caught it with the brakes and turned off the key. It turned out that the crimp on the shifter cable was defective and let go, so the shifter showed N but the car was in D. This was a brand new B&M shifter. Not an unsafe car for sure. In fact, if it had been built with skinny 4 wheel drum brakes like so many others, there might have been carnage.
Ya, thats lame, why would this guy need to start his glass street rod anyway, we all know what a motor sounds like with open headers??
This kind of shit drives me nuts! Why do these knuckleheads in their jacked up trucks feel the need to come to these towns when there are hot rod/custom shows going on and insist on cruising around? I don't drive my hot rod to their truck shows!!
My wipers have always worked perfectly fine until Sunday morning during the cruise to Ski Shores. Just a little misty rain, but why did they quit at that moment ? They worked great after the rain stopped ... go figure ...
