Another batch of oldies. These were taken at the GREAT Dayton Speedway in 1965. These pictures were at a weekly show - Sportsmen Late Models and Supermodifieds.

Attached are some photos of a Loiisville track - probably an old horse racing track, and probably not there any more. Indybigjohn told me earlier that this was an old fairgrounds track. Interesting "garage area". These are ARCA photos from 1965.

A Different Northern Kentucky track - Boone County ? Northern Kentucky Raceway ? Any help identifying is appreciated. Thanks. Another 1965 ARCA race.

 

Vegas Oldtimer, that looks like Northern Kentucky, but I could be wrong. The top pic shows Dorus Wisecarver (41) and Dick Freeman (2), I believe, in an ARCA race. In the same photo, the two guys with the cowboy hats are myself and my little brother, I believe, talking to John Marcum and other ARCA officials.

The Louisville area photos are from Louisville Downs, a half-mile trotting track where we ran an ARCA race once. Paul Wensink won it. My avatar photo was taken during qualifying at that race.

Dog427435, Post 3025 looks like a lineup at Nashville with DW on the pole in the Alexander Ford.

 

OK I will do my best.. photo 3034 Charley Binkley nashville ....3033 huntsville alabama 1965.. 7 bob burchan on the out side red farmer f 97 jr not postive but the no 1 could be donnie allison. 3022 nashville tenn. 3025 hard to tell the 3 rd row back 92 jimmy smut means. outside 2nd row charley binkley. the 3 rd row inside could be jones ferrell and the rest i could tell more but am unable to make out numbers..keep them comming...bobby....

 

Pretty good, K9. I think 3032 shows a lineup in front of the old Nashville grandstand.

 

I grew up at 'Ascot' in Gardena. I never kner 'Western speedway' existed.
Way cool.

 

I thought this might be '63 but they don't show a race at Nashville in '63 so I guess it is '64. Looks like Rex White on the pole, one of the Petty cars (Richard?) outside, probably Jim Pasqule third #42, Joe Weatherly#8, Pearson in the #6. Petty won the race.

 

Don't know where you are looking, but it is 1963. This is the race where Tiny Lund went into the billboard in turn 3 and had a pretty big fire.

Anyway, it couldn't be 1964. Little Joe wasn't with us then.

 

Dang, it never ceases to amaze me how much we learn on this thread. Somewhere out there there's always somebody who has the answer. This is great. Thanks, Falcon and Calhoun.

 

The Bergeron photo in post 3021 is Don White in the ex-Chrysler Engineering #88 car. This was the Dodge Daytona that Buddy Baker broke 200 with at Talladega in 1970. The current owner will be delighted to see the photo. The car was given to Don in 1971 to run as an independent. He ran it mostly as a Charger 500 in 1971, and as a later 1973-4 Charger. sm66p, thank you for posting it up.

 

I knew better but let the internet talk me out of it. I should have noticed the Pontiac, Weatherly went to Mercury later. Jim Paschal won the race. I shall punish myself accordingly.

This is Neal Sceva at Kil-Kare Speedway in 1966 or 1967.

 

This looks like the old Nashville Fairgrounds. Anybody know for sure? Allstarracing

 

This is 605 Speedway (used to be called San Gabriel Speedway) at Irwindale Calif. Note the W behind the number. This designated West Coast in NASCAR at the time and the fence seperated the track along the backstretch from the freeway. These are the NASCAR six cylinder class that some one asked about before. NASCAR stipulated Sportsman cars had to have one or two digit nimbers and the six cylinder class had to have three digit numbers until there were so many sportsman cars then there was no seperation. The sixes also ran narrower tires. The new Irwindale Speedway is just across the freeway from this location. Allstarracing

 

This looks like the old Nashville track while it was still dirt.

 

Looks like Red Farmers 97jr at Nashville? Sometimes he ran with a 197 on the car. This was after paving and before the last track rebuild. The first couple of times I was there it was narrow and tight. Most drivers had to run the corners single file and slingshot off down the straights. Then they rebuilt it and they could actually pass in the corners. Allstarracing

 

Looks like Nashville in the 1967-68 era. note you can't see the back stretch. When they rebuilt it they raised the back stretch so the fans could see the action. Allstarracing

 

Allstar, 3048 is indeed the Nashville Fairgrounds in either 1974 or 1975. Darrell Waltrip in the Harpeth Ford #84, Jerry Lawley outside in the 4, and Jimmy Means behind DW in the 92. I don't have many starting lineups from those two years so I can't make a positive id.

And yes, 3050 is the old Legion Bowl dirt track on Cowan Street in Nashville.

I was recently given a box of paper work from the 1954 season from the Legion Bowl. Probably the neatest things are the pit gate sign-in sheets from each week. Each week, Bob Reuther, Frank Reed, Pete Eudailey, Herb Lewis, Cliff Marlin (who later came to be known as "Coo Coo"), and others.

Here is a payout sheet for the June 19, 1954 race.

 

This is the one mile trotting track Louisville Downs. It is still there. It is used as a training track and stables. ARCA ran ther a couple of years and the motorcycles ran there for awhile. Would still make a great automobile race track. Allstarracing

 

It's 1964, the first year they ran the full-bodied cars at Nashville. And here's the reason I know this. I've never posted this before, but here is where the photo of Charlie Binkley came from. And the kid in the photo on the right sitting on the fender - me, age 6.
