I like all the detailed shots. Sometimes it seems to slow the work down because you always stop to take a pic, but then you can show your buddies what it takes to build a car like that. Looking forward to the updates.

I have been waiting for you to start this thread, thanks and beautiful work! I have a way worse tudor body and salvageable frame , havent found any coupe tin yet but come hell or high water I will have a chopped 40,s style taildragger someday ! Subscribed, and cant wait for more updates.

 

Great work on a very challenging project, in fact most rodders would have given up by now, but it's obvious that you have a plan and will stick to it.
If your work up until this point is any indication of the final product, this '36 will be a winner!

Removed the rusty-crusty rear subrails next:





I have aftermarket subrails that I had to drastically alter but I'll show that later. Now it was time to make temporary b-pillar brackets that would be strong and could be bolted down but wouldn't get in the way of trying to glue these two cars together!! Looks like it's gonna work out fine:



Then built the frickin' jungle gym inside to keep the b-pillars where they need to be when I cut it. Already racked myself twice!



Originally, the plan was to do like Norwegian Blacksmith did and use the sedan roof, which means it had to be split and spread, since the sedan roof is narrower in the rear than the coupe. Started stripping paint and like I said before, really nice sheet metal underneath:



But I'm not crazy about the extra work, and since I have a 5w roof laying around...



.. a new plan! A little boogered here and there, but between the two roofs, a 3-window is not far away!

I almost felt bad for what I was about to do, but it was for the greater hotrod good. First up was the rear side windows:



Then the rear:



The side window pieces will become the skins for the 3w door tops, see the shapes?



Removed the lead from the front rooftop before cutting and made reference lines around the rear. These probably won't get used in the end, but just in case:





Start choppin'!!! I put Slayer on the stereo at this point! Haha!





Off with their heads!!



I left the b-pillars tall because I'll pie cut them, bend them in, and they will become the curved door jamb for the coupe roof:



Your typical Marcel DeLey chop is 3 inches. I tend to lean more toward the dark side. Foster, Chrisp and Jeb Scolman all did 4 inch chops and I love all those cars so that' s the direction I headed, with a 3 3/4" chop as a compromise.





Pretty bitchn'!
